2026: The World can continue to look to China

2026-05-25

In 2026, a more confident and open China is moving forward with substantial achievements behind it and firm confidence in the future. Looking back on 2025, the world remained marked by turbulence and transformation. Rivalries over the multipolar order intensified, the choice between openness and isolation became more pressing, and the questions of war and peace weighed heavily on the global conscience. Yet, it was precisely amid these severe tests of volatility that China demonstrated extraordinary resolve and strategic composure, delivering an undeniably exemplary response.

Over the past year, China drew upon "Chinese wisdom" to respond with composure to the "questions of the world", emerging as an anchor of stability in a time of global uncertainty. In the face of the global governance deficit, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative. Together with the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, these frameworks constitute an actionable roadmap for building a community with a shared future for mankind. Within the international community, China is increasingly viewed as a stabilizing force.

What the world expects is not a zero-sum narrative by power politics, but a cooperative vision based on intertwined interests, shared burdens and mutual gains. As a primary engine of global economic growth, China will continue to deepen reforms and expand its openness. With further tariff adjustments and broader market access, China will leverage the certainty and stability of its high-quality development to hedge against uncertainties in the external environment.

At the same time, as the operator of the world's largest and most complex energy and industrial system, China is rapidly advancing its green transition while working to maintain overall system stability. China is forging a new paradigm by actively exploring novel models, such as clean electrification and zero-carbon industrial parks, to reshape the foundations of the industrial economy. This endeavor expands the developmental horizons for many Asian nations—proving that deeper industrialization and climate goals are not inherently contradictory, but can be pursued in parallel.

Furthermore, indigenous Large Language Models (LLMs) exemplified by DeepSeek, have surged to the forefront, with their open-source models hailed as a valuable contribution to the world. Moving from technological catch-up to paradigm innovation, China is extending an invitation to the world to forge a shared innovation community.

Equally compelling is the dynamism of its people. The "China Travel" trend became a global phenomenon in 2025. The international media witnessed that every inbound visitor helped break prevailing stereotypes about China. As the flows of people, goods, information, and culture circulate unhindered across continents and oceans, an authentic, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive picture of China is vividly presented to the global community.

In 2026, the world can continue to look to China to inject renewed certainty into global governance.
