Xi Jinping meets Grenadian Prime Minister Mitchell

On the morning of January 13, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, who was paying an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Mitchell extended his sincere condolences to the Chinese government and people for the earthquake in Dingri, Tibet. Xi Jinping thanked him and pointed out that the earthquake occurred in the southwest high-altitude area of China. China had completed the rescue and temporary resettlement in the shortest time and would also start the reconstruction in the shortest time. The Chinese government was confident and capable of achieving victory in the earthquake relief.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, China-Grenada relations have developed steadily. The two sides have respected each other, treated each other as equals, continuously consolidated political mutual trust, achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation in various fields, and the friendship between the two peoples has become increasingly deep. China is willing to work with Grenada to strengthen the docking of the two countries' development strategies and promote China-Grenada cooperation to achieve more results and better benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping emphasized that maintaining and developing China-Grenada relations is in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples. The two sides should summarize the successful experience of the development of bilateral relations in the past 20 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations and draw a new blueprint for the long-term high-level development of China-Grenada relations. China supports Grenada in independently exploring a development path that suits its national conditions and is willing to strengthen the exchange of experience in governance with Grenada and closely conduct friendly exchanges in various fields. China's development will bring new development opportunities to all countries including Grenada and is willing to provide assistance for Grenada's economic and social development within the framework of South-South cooperation and create new highlights of bilateral cooperation in the fields of new energy, green low-carbon and digital economy. China supports Grenada in enhancing its capacity to cope with climate change and disaster prevention and reduction and will continue to promote the international community to attach importance to the concerns and demands of small island countries on climate change issues. The two sides should also closely interact with each other, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education and tourism and further promote the people-to-people bond. China advocates an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization and is willing to work with Grenada to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China has always attached great importance to its relations with Caribbean countries and is willing to continue to provide assistance within its capacity for the economic and social development of countries in this region and deepen the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two sides.

Mitchell thanked China for providing timely assistance after Grenada was hit by a super hurricane in July last year. Mitchell said that Grenada-China relations have continuously deepened in the past 20 years. Grenada firmly adheres to the one-China principle and China's sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. Grenada has benefited a lot from its relations with China and looks forward to continuously strengthening cooperation with China. The Communist Party of China adheres to the people-centered development concept and has led China to achieve great development achievements, setting an example for developing countries. Grenada is willing to learn from China's experience in governance. China is the leader of the Global South, has always adhered to the equality of all countries regardless of size, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, acts in accordance with its words in international affairs and is playing an increasingly important role. Grenada is willing to firmly stand with China, implement the three major global initiatives and maintain world peace and stability.
