China's humanoid robot industry "accelerates"

2025-02-19

Recently, in Beijing Shougang Park, a robot of nearly Chinese medium stature had a running training for about 4 minutes, with stable gait, natural posture and a maximum walking speed of 5 kilometers per hour. This humanoid robot is called "Kuafu", with a height of about 1.6 meters and a weight of about 45 kilograms, developed by Leju (Shenzhen) Robot Technology Co., Ltd. On the stage of the Spring Festival Gala in the Year of the Snake, a humanoid robot that twists yangko became one of the "popular kings" of the night. This humanoid robot, developed by Hangzhou Yushu Technology Co., Ltd., made its debut at the Beijing World Robot Conference in 2023. Under the guidance of engineers, it learned difficult movements such as running, jumping, and even backflips. Humanoid robots are an integrated embodiment of artificial intelligence technology and an important track for future industries. Nowadays in China, these increasingly "smart" humanoid robots are accelerating from science fiction to reality, and are expected to become capable assistants for ordinary people. According to Morgan Stanley's recently released list of the top 100 listed companies in the global humanoid robot field, 37 Chinese companies including Ubiquitous and BYD are on the list. The Chinese Institute of Electronics predicts that by 2030, the market size of humanoid robots in China is expected to reach about 870 billion yuan. In early February, 10 models of "Chu Cai" series humanoid robots from Hubei province were unveiled in front of the Hongshan Auditorium in Wuhan. On that day, the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Government held the "New Year's First Party Meeting", and the robot also made a congratulatory couplet on site... The humanoid robot has gained a strong presence in this year's "New Year's First Party Meetings" across China. The government work reports of multiple provinces have made key layouts for future industries, including humanoid robots. Beijing has proposed to actively layout and construct future industries, focusing on cultivating 20 future industries such as humanoid robots, and has also proposed to establish the World Humanoid Robot Games. Provinces such as Guangdong, Sichuan, and Shanxi have also proposed to vigorously develop future industries such as embodied intelligence. In 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and seven other departments issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting Future Industrial Innovation and Development", and it is expected that humanoid robots will be the first to be applied in fields such as intelligent manufacturing, home services, and special environmental operations. Experts believe that the humanoid robot industry, which focuses on "serving" and "assisting" humans as its main development direction, has a highly complex industrial chain and is expected to drive the development of upstream and downstream enterprises, giving rise to various new jobs. Currently, China is actively addressing population aging, which greatly expands the application scenarios of humanoid robots. According to Tan Min, Chief Brand Officer of Ubiquitous, once the technology matures, humanoid robots have great potential in addressing the aging population, including providing daily assistance, health monitoring, and emotional companionship. Humanoid robots will provide high-quality companionship for the retirement life of the elderly. In addition to taking care of daily diet, daily life, and health management, it is more important to play an indispensable role in emotional companionship Tan Min said. Leng Xiaokun, Chairman of Leju Robotics, said that from the perspective of machine assisted humans, the application of humanoid robots has the potential to free people from simple, repetitive, and high-risk job positions. As an interpreter in the exhibition hall, as a vehicle quality inspector in the factory, using air fryers to fry French fries, making salad burgers, brewing coffee, folding clothes... In China, humanoid robots have gradually been applied in multiple scenes, laying the foundation for future daily life. "With active policy support and huge market demand, China's humanoid robot industry will certainly usher in great development." Du Lan, a standing committee member of the Guangdong Association for Science and Technology, said that humanoid robots are one of the biggest opportunities for technology hardware products in the next 5 to 10 years, but the real implementation of related products still needs to find breakthroughs in marketization and achieve a cycle of application and research and development.
