At 12:12 pm on May 14th, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and Zhijiang Laboratory jointly launched the world's first space computing satellite constellation into orbit using the Long March-2D carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The satellite successfully entered its designated orbit and the launch mission was a complete success. The space computing satellite constellation is the first constellation of the "Star Computing" program initiated by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and also the first constellation of the "Three Body Computing Constellation" of Zhijiang Laboratory. The constellation launched this time consists of 12 computing satellites, carrying an 8 billion parameter space-based model, achieving "computing power launch, in orbit networking, and model launch". It can process and infer data from L0-L4 level satellites in orbit, and perform in orbit tasks such as laser access and astronomical scientific observation of off orbit satellites. Usually, satellites need to transmit data back to the ground first, and then the ground data processing center analyzes it. This "sky sensing and earth computing" model is limited by factors such as ground station resources and bandwidth, with less than one tenth of effective satellite data being transmitted back to the ground, and there are problems such as data timeliness. The space computing satellite constellation will complete the in orbit verification and application of space-based computing basic functions such as building links, networking, and cloud computing for space computing systems, constructing future computing power networks, and realizing the transformation of specific scenarios from "day and earth computing" to "day and sky computing", meeting the growing demand for real-time space computing and helping China to take the lead in building space computing infrastructure in the world. We want to build a space computing constellation, send computing power into space, achieve interconnectivity between computing satellites, and then send artificial intelligence into space. ”Wang Jian, academician of the CAE Member and director of Zhijiang Laboratory, said. The construction of a space computing satellite constellation will greatly expand the boundaries of space applications and have profound significance for the transformation of the aerospace industry. In the future, ordinary people are expected to conveniently access services such as computing satellites and remote sensing satellites through this constellation. In addition to computing and interconnection capabilities, the space computing satellite constellation is also equipped with ground remote sensing payloads. With the help of onboard computing capabilities, real-time in orbit data processing will be achieved, exploring and verifying the "days and days calculation". By effectively reducing data transmission costs and time delays, data processing efficiency can be improved. At the same time, through the satellite spirit engine, satellite 3D digital twin data and application services can be provided for emergency safety, low altitude economy, embodied intelligence, gaming and tourism industries. It is reported that the constellation is provided with launch services by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Commercial Rocket Co., Ltd. as the general contractor. The Long March 2D carrier rocket was developed by the Eighth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. It is a two-stage liquid carrier rocket at room temperature, with the ability to launch single and multiple satellites under different orbital requirements.
