It is reported that the "Tongji" ship, as a 2000 ton marine scientific research and teaching support vessel, can be used in unlimited navigation areas (excluding ice areas) and has all-weather operational capabilities. In terms of ship power, the "Tongji" adopts an advanced hybrid power system of "DC busbar+lithium iron phosphate battery pack". The lithium battery pack plays a role in peak shaving, valley filling and energy recovery, reducing energy consumption by about 8% compared to similar scientific research ships. The intelligent energy efficiency system and intelligent route planning function of the ship can improve navigation efficiency and save operating costs by about 3% to 5%. In terms of scientific research capabilities, the "Tongji" has shown outstanding performance. It can carry operational ROVs (underwater remote-controlled robots), multiple containerized shipborne laboratories, and has comprehensive self-organizing network functions for mobile and fixed observation nodes. It can meet the comprehensive scientific research tasks of marine geology and geophysics, physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine biology, atmospheric environment, etc. It can carry out comprehensive investigations of seabed topography and geomorphology, sediment and structure, marine environment and ecology, as well as marine investigation equipment testing. It can also undertake offshore engineering tasks such as fault detection, maintenance, laying and post burial, seabed routing investigation and scanning, wind power engineering survey, etc., providing equipment support for marine scientific research and the cultivation of marine related professionals. It is worth mentioning that the exterior design, driving and living quarters of the ship, led by the School of Design and Creativity at Tongji University, have received unanimous praise from nearly 20 participating units.
