The reporter learned from the Guangdong Provincial Archives that on June 9th, International Archives Day, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Dongshen Water Supply Project supplying water to Hong Kong, the Guangdong Provincial Archives opened for the first time 28 precious archives, including 17 document archives and 11 historical photos, showcasing the process of project initiation, construction, completion, expansion and renovation of this major project. The Guangdong Provincial Archives is exhibiting the first original water supply agreement for the Dongshen Water Supply Project, which was signed by representatives of the Guangdong Provincial People's Committee and the Hong Kong authorities on April 22, 1964 in Guangzhou. This agreement witnesses the blood and family ties between Guangdong and Hong Kong, where water is used as a link to support each other. The agreement stipulates that starting from March 1965, Guangdong will annually deliver 68.2 million cubic meters of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong. The first phase of the project was completed in only 11 months, ensuring social stability and economic development in Hong Kong. After three expansions, Guangdong's annual water supply to Hong Kong increased to 1.1 billion cubic meters by 1994. The comprehensive renovation project was launched in 2000, and after completion, the annual water supply capacity reached 2.423 billion cubic meters. The Guangdong Provincial Archives also disclosed for the first time three thank-you letters from Hong Kong compatriots, including a letter from Hong Kong citizen Yin Bing to the Dongguan County Management Office of the Dongshen Engineering Management Bureau in 1980, a letter from Hong Kong citizen Li Lai to the Dongshen Engineering Management Bureau in 1981, and a letter from Hong Kong citizen Zhao Yongyi to the Dongguan Command Center of the Dongshen Expansion Project in 1984. The words and lines express deep gratitude and support for the selfless water supply in mainland China. In addition, the "1991 Guangdong Provincial People's Government promulgated and implemented the 'Regulations on the Protection of Dongjiang River Water Quality in Guangdong Province'" exhibited this time indicates that Guangdong has strictly protected water quality through legislation, establishment of dedicated institutions, and other measures since 1991, demonstrating a high sense of responsibility for Hong Kong's water supply. According to staff members from the Guangdong Provincial Archives, the systematic opening of archives related to the Dongshen Water Supply Project vividly showcases the struggle of Guangdong and Hong Kong to work together, using precious historical documents as carriers.
