Recently, China's first domestically developed large-diameter sinking vertical shaft boring machine, "Er Gong Vertical Shield 1," was produced in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province. This equipment has changed the traditional manual excavation method for the starting and receiving shafts of shield tunneling machines, greatly improving excavation speed, reducing land occupation, and enhancing construction efficiency and safety. The "Er Gong Vertical Shield No.1" is independently developed by China Communications Tianhe Machinery Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CCCC Tianhe"), with a total weight of 160 tons and a high-power drive system of 1600 kilowatts. It adopts a fully sealed high-pressure design and has a maximum excavation depth of 100 meters and a rock crushing capacity of 80 megapascals. This device innovatively integrates functions such as excavation, slag removal, support, and guidance. It adopts a vertical downward excavation mode and achieves underwater operation of the main engine through flooding construction technology. It also has intelligent variable diameter excavation capability within the diameter range of 10-18.4 meters. It is equipped with advanced systems such as key component status monitoring, automatic guidance measurement, and intelligent assisted excavation, coupled with a new generation of intelligent control systems, enabling operators to remotely monitor equipment status in real time and accurately adjust construction parameters. This not only greatly improves construction efficiency and intelligence level, but also greatly eliminates safety hazards for personnel working in hazardous environments. Zhang Yang, Director of the Vertical Shaft Special Installation Institute of CCCC Tianhe Design Institute, introduced that currently, the starting and receiving shafts of shield tunneling are mainly constructed by traditional pile driving or continuous wall drilling underground, which has a long construction period, high cost, and significant impact on the surrounding environment. Compared with the traditional manual excavation method of sinking well construction, the use of "Two Public Vertical Shield No.1" sinking well operation can achieve unmanned underground and fewer people on the ground, saving more than 50% of construction costs. The excavation speed is more than 5 times faster than the traditional method, which can effectively shorten the construction period. At the same time, it has the characteristics of wide applicability, small footprint, high construction efficiency and safety, low cost, green environmental protection, good quality of vertical shaft forming, and minimal impact on surrounding buildings. The "Er Gong Vertical Shield No.1" adopts fully prefabricated pipe segment assembly and suspension sinking technology, achieving one-time formation of the vertical shaft, greatly improving the stability and forming quality of the wellbore, and controlling the impact on the surrounding ground settlement at the millimeter level; Faced with the constantly changing geological conditions during the excavation process, it has the adaptability to complex geological conditions and can operate efficiently in soft soil, soft rock, and composite formations. After the equipment is put into use, the maximum excavation speed can reach 5 meters per day. Yang Hui, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of CCCC Tianhe, said that through innovative breakthroughs, the R&D team has not only successfully developed the "Er Gong Vertical Shield 1" ultra large diameter vertical shaft excavation machine, but also built a full system solution based on prefabricated vertical excavation technology, providing a new idea for constructing shield machine starting and receiving shafts in narrow spaces. This innovative achievement will provide equipment support and new construction methods for the construction of sponge cities and the development of underground spaces in multiple fields such as energy, water conservancy, mining, and transportation.
