The policy of "Hong Kong cars heading north" celebrated its second anniversary of implementation on the 1st. According to the data from the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border inspection station, as of 9:00 am on the 1st, the number of vehicles registered for "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" border inspection has exceeded 109000, and the number of registered drivers has exceeded 129000. The number of "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" entering and exiting the country that have been inspected by the border inspection station has exceeded 2.86 million. According to the person in charge of the border inspection station of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, the usage of the bridge has repeatedly reached new highs. Since the beginning of this year, as of July 1st, the number of "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" entering and exiting through the Zhuhai Highway Port via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge has reached 1.02 million, a year-on-year increase of 48%, which is significantly earlier than last year's date of over one million vehicles. At present, self driving single license plate cars heading north have become a popular cross-border travel method for Hong Kong residents, further promoting the interconnection and integrated development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and accelerating the construction of the "one hour living circle". It has gradually become a trend for Hong Kong residents to travel north for consumption via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge. During weekends and holidays, the phenomenon of "northward heat" at ports is particularly prominent, and queuing traffic often occurs during peak hours. According to the statistics of the border inspection department, during weekends and holidays this year, the daily average traffic volume of single license plate vehicles in Hong Kong exceeded 8600, accounting for more than 40% of the total number of passenger vehicles at the port. On May 4th this year, during the Labor Day holiday, the highest daily traffic volume of "Hong Kong cars heading north" reached 15000 vehicles, breaking the historical record since the implementation of the policy. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam recently stated that he is pleased to see that many Hong Kong people enjoy traveling to the mainland on weekends or long holidays, and the number of mainland tourists visiting Hong Kong is also on the rise. He described mainland and Hong Kong citizens as "traveling in both directions". The Special Administrative Region government will soon introduce the "Guangdong Bus Southbound" arrangement, which will further benefit the economy of Guangdong and Hong Kong. On the 30th, Chen Meibao, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, visited Guangzhou to discuss with Guangdong Province the optimization of "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" and the implementation of "Guangdong vehicles heading south". Chen Meibao stated that the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong have always been committed to optimizing cross-border travel measures and assisting in further integration of personnel in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Both sides are currently discussing relevant arrangements to broaden the travel options for tourists in Guangdong Province, respond to the eager desire of citizens from both places to travel in both directions, and bring new groups of tourists to Hong Kong, driving the development of multiple industries.
