The Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Chen Meibao, announced on the 2nd that after consultation with relevant departments in Guangdong Province, a consensus has been reached that the "Guangdong Vehicles Southbound" plan will be officially launched and implemented in November this year. In the initial stage, a daily quota of 100 vehicles will be allocated, and vehicles can enter the urban area of Hong Kong. The Special Administrative Region government announced the policy direction of "Guangdong vehicles heading south" on the 2nd, and plans to announce the details as soon as possible within the year. This policy is an important measure to implement the "Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area" and relevant central documents, and to promote the facilitation of personnel and vehicle travel between Hong Kong and the mainland, as well as the development of transportation and logistics, by studying and formulating policies for the passage of vehicles between Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland. Chen Meibao stated that the transfer parking lot of the Hong Kong Airport Authority has 1800 parking spaces, and a reservation system has been established. This will further attract mainland residents to transfer through the Hong Kong International Airport, fully reflecting Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub. The entry into the urban area will be carried out on a small scale with 100 daily appointment quotas. Relevant departments will closely monitor the operation and promote it in a stable and controllable manner, gradually increasing the quota in the future. She stated that "Guangdong cars heading south" and "Hong Kong cars heading north" constitute a reciprocal arrangement, and eligible Guangdong single license plate private cars can apply to travel to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge through innovative and convenient channels. This not only facilitates mutual visits between citizens of the two places and realizes the expectation of "two-way travel", but also attracts different types of tourists and promotes cultural exchanges. Chen Meibao stated that the "Guangdong Bus Southbound" initiative will open up a new mode for mainland residents to travel southwards, further promoting the integration of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and benefiting the economic development of Hong Kong. Next, the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong will continue to actively formulate, steadily and orderly promote the implementation arrangements of "Guangdong vehicles heading south". (New Society)
