Recently, the first phase of the protection and renovation project for Chikan Ancient Town in Kaiping, Guangdong has entered the official operation stage. As a provincial-level key cultural heritage project, this project has invested a total of 5.65 billion yuan and fully preserved a 238000 square meter arcade building complex. Among them, 19 provincial-level cultural heritage units have received systematic repairs, and the cost of cultural heritage restoration alone exceeds 100 million yuan. The core area of the ancient town is based on more than 700 arcade buildings, and century old buildings such as the Situ Library and the Guanzu Library embody the spirit of overseas Chinese "promoting education and serving the country". The Situ family built the library in 1925 to "open up the wisdom of the people", and the Guanzu Library collected tens of thousands of books such as the "Complete Library of Four Treasures" in 1929, becoming a bridge for spreading Chinese and Western cultures. The former sites of Christian churches and Parisian hotels bear witness to the prosperity of modern commerce and the integration of diverse civilizations. Through scientific planning and revitalization, Chikan Ancient Town has transformed the treasures of overseas Chinese architecture into a new carrier of cultural heritage, providing a model for the integrated development of culture and tourism in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
