The "2025 Sustainable Development Goals Report" released by the United Nations on the 14th shows that among the 169 sub items of the Sustainable Development Goals, only 35% are progressing smoothly, nearly half are progressing slowly, and 18% have regressed. On July 14th, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, UN Secretary General Guterres (center) gave a speech at a press conference to release the 2025 Sustainable Development Goals report. According to a report by Xinhua News Agency reporter Xie E, significant progress has been made in achieving sustainable development goals in areas such as public health, education, energy, and digital connectivity. The number of new HIV infection cases has dropped by about 40% since 2010; Since 2000, malaria prevention and control have saved 12.7 million people; At present, the coverage rate of social security population exceeds 50%; Compared to 2015, the number of children and youth enrolled in school has increased by 110 million; The number of child marriages has decreased, while the number of women in politics has increased; By 2023, 92% of the global population will have access to electricity; Internet users will increase from 40% in 2015 to 68% in 2024; The level of protection for key ecosystems has significantly improved. The report also shows that the current progress is insufficient to achieve all sustainable development goals by 2030. There are still 800 million people in absolute poverty worldwide; Billions of people lack safe drinking water and sanitation services; Climate change is intensifying; The armed conflict in 2024 resulted in nearly 50000 deaths and a displacement of 120 million people by the end of the year. UN Secretary General Guterres sounded the alarm of a "global development emergency" at the press conference for the release of the report. He urged countries to take strong action to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. He also said that the current global economic and financial architecture is fundamentally unfair to developing countries and must be reformed. UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, Junhua Li, pointed out that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development demonstrates that countries recognize the shared destiny and that sustainable development is not a zero sum game, but a common cause that benefits all. He said that there is an urgent need for multilateralism at present, and countries should revitalize international cooperation and regard sustainable development goals as a firm commitment to present and future generations. In September 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with 17 Sustainable Development Goals at its core, committed to eradicating poverty, promoting equality, and addressing climate change by 2030. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are divided into 169 sub items. (New Society)
