Look, this colorful fur is not painted on, but baked. "At the foot of Bijia Mountain, in the Chetian Tourism New Village Pyrography Museum in Fengtian Town, Anfu County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, Liu Jilong, one of the first batch of rural craftsmen and famous teachers in China and vice president of the Anfu County New Federation Freelancers Association, is painting. As the branding needle travels back and forth, wisps of light smoke gradually rise, and a colorful painting of "The Bull Turning into the Universe" gradually reveals its charm. Liu Jilong put down his branding pen and enthusiastically explained to the onlookers, "I first embed the paint into a specially selected wooden board, and then use branding needles at different temperatures to accurately awaken each layer of color and texture, making the images in the painting vivid." It is understood that this technique originated from the Western Han Dynasty's "fire stroke", using a soldering iron as the pen and high temperature as ink, and deeply understands the wonders of wood carbonization. It not only embodies the essence of Chinese painting such as hook, tie, dot, and dye, but also can use the subtle control of firepower to create rich layers, delicate tones, and realistic three-dimensional effects. It can be called an Eastern skill of "using fire as ink". Liu Jilong introduced that drawing a beautiful pyrography often requires several months of effort, from material selection, conception to precise temperature control pyrography, and every step cannot be rushed. Due to its long processing time, slow effectiveness, and low market awareness, many pyrography enthusiasts have given up halfway. However, Liu Jilong did not give up easily. He constantly innovated pyrography techniques through repeated experiments and explorations, not only testing hundreds of types of wooden boards to find the board that can best bear colors and burn marks, but also repeatedly adjusting the temperature of the firing needle to record the color effects under different conditions, successfully creating the "filler firing color" technique. Pigments from different regions naturally develop and blend at high temperatures, ultimately completing coloring and shaping, which is a systematic project. ”Liu Jilong pointed to the brownish yellow hair of the old cow in "The Cow Turns the Universe" and explained that this innovation endows pyrography with rich expressive power, revitalizing this ancient technique. In 2023, with the cooperation of the United Front Work Department of Anfu County Committee, Fengtian Town Government and other departments, the Chetian Tourism New Village Pyrography Museum was jointly built. Afterwards, Liu Jilong settled in the pyrography studio to focus on his creations and patiently introduced pyrography techniques to the visitors who came and went. The craftsmanship of our ancestors cannot be broken in our hands! ”This is the most common thing Liu Jilong says. In recent years, Liu Jilong has founded an art school, established a pyrography association, and offered training courses, teaching core skills such as temperature control, composition, and filling without reservation, cultivating a large number of artistic and pyrography talents for society. With a burning pen and enthusiasm, Liu Jilong silently guards the legendary fire and ink painting that spans two thousand years in the green mountains and waters of Anfu, constantly painting a new chapter in the era of pyrography skills.
