Shentong President Wang Wenbin: The future of express delivery is about "digitalization+experience"
2025-07-17
The express delivery industry is undergoing a transformation from 'scale competition' to 'value competition'. Recently, at the Shentong Express Open Day event held in Wanning, Hainan, Shentong Express President Wang Wenbin stated that Shentong's future choices are very clear: to increase investment in digitalization, improve customer satisfaction with flexible services, and create long-term competitiveness with sustainable development, in order to pursue 'connotative growth'. Dai Changzheng, CMO of Shentong Express, said in an interview that the express delivery industry is now shifting from price competition to value competition. "In the future, we must first gain customer recognition in terms of experience and service in order to win the competition in the industry." Building an intelligent and efficient express delivery system. At the Shentong Express Open Day held that evening, Shandong cherries were placed for everyone to taste, which were freshly delivered from the cherry production area in Shandong in the morning. In the cherry producing area of Shandong, Shentong Express has opened a "cherry special line", which provides direct delivery of "fresh and premium" products throughout the entire process, with a 30% increase in delivery time. Core provinces such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta offer "next day delivery", with a comprehensive delivery cost of up to 30%. In the fresh food supply chain, Shentong has reduced the delivery cost of high-value categories by nearly 50% through the "origin direct delivery+intelligent routing" model. Similar to deep and efficient services, a demonstration effect is being formed in high-end categories such as flowers, fresh tea, and mangoes, which cannot be separated from an efficient and intelligent express delivery system. We have built an intelligent operation system with the industry's first digital twin platform 'Visible Kunlun' as its core. ”Wang Wenbin introduced at the event that this model is like the "smart brain" of the express delivery network, which can accurately simulate the operation status of the entire network and achieve 100% visual tracking of the entire package process. By utilizing intelligent algorithms to dynamically optimize resources, coupled with the AI anomaly recognition system's second level warning response, Shentong's overall operational efficiency has been significantly improved. In addition, Shentong has created a "visual platform" to achieve panoramic visualization of the transportation center, with 120000 cameras monitoring in real-time 24/7 and processing over 200 million image data per day. AI can not only identify package abnormalities and automatically handle them, significantly reducing the damage rate, but also monitor safety violations and achieve intelligent risk control in transit centers. Currently, the system has been connected to more than 100 centers across the country. Dai Changzheng also introduced that the average delivery time of Shentong Express has been compressed to 43 hours, supplemented by basic preservation technology and constant temperature protection measures. The previously difficult delivery categories have gradually been standardized, such as fresh food, pre packaged dishes, and semi-finished products, which have achieved large-scale services. Wang Wenbin revealed for the first time at the meeting the layout of unmanned vehicles at the end of the line. In 2025, the focus will be on building six core delivery scenarios, including "unmanned vehicle delivery stations, campuses, villages, and scenic areas". It is planned to put 2000 unmanned vehicles into operation within the year to further strengthen the intelligent delivery capabilities at the end of the line. The industry should shift from "price competition" to "value competition", and within three years, our experience should be at the forefront. ”Wang Wenbin set a goal on the scene. Against the backdrop of slowing industry growth, Shentong Express's business volume will increase by 29.83% in 2024 and still reach 26.60% in the first quarter of 2025. It is reported that by 2025, the daily production capacity of Shentong Express will exceed 90 million orders, with a peak processing capacity of 100 million pieces per day. At the event, it was revealed that Shentong Express experienced a 260% increase in its large customer base in 2024, with a net recommendation value of 93%, far exceeding the industry average. Dai Changzheng revealed that this was mainly due to the combination of products such as "first-class", "Shendongdong" and "fresh food": "We just want to make flexible solutions to accurately solve the pain points in various subdivisions like scalpels." Taking "remote area freight collection" as an example, Shentong's freight in Xinjiang, Xizang and other six provinces decreased by 80%, and its timeliness increased by 20%. In May of this year, after the first warehouse distribution center in Xinjiang was put into operation, 70% of express delivery in core cities achieved next day delivery, and 95% of packages in Xinjiang were delivered within two days. In terms of industry solutions, Shentong's flexible solution services have covered more than 40 industries such as footwear, clothing, and beauty, driving a year-on-year growth of 260% in the scale of major customer business. Today, the price competition in the express delivery industry has shifted from global competition to local competition, which is a very important change. ”In response to the issue of low price competition in the express delivery industry, Dai Changzheng stated that the focus of market competition is gradually shifting towards quality oriented large customers, and companies need to engage in direct competition through flexible solutions. He further introduced to the reporter from China Central Radio Finance and Economics, "If we blindly ignore the so-called price, it is actually difficult to deliver good value. The big change in Shentong today is that we are paying more attention to the strategy of value competition." Dai Changzheng emphasized that the key to future industry competition lies in whether customers can recognize it in terms of experience and service. The competition in the future express delivery industry will be more differentiated competition, and everyone can find their own positioning in different tracks. Dai Changzheng pointed out that the competitive advantage of Shentong Express's future differentiation lies in service and experience. In the future, it will focus on customer experience and distinguish different customer segments. (New Society)
