The European sixth generation aircraft development plan is on the brink of collapse

According to a Spanish website on July 16th, France, Germany, and Spain are the main participants in the European sixth generation fighter jet project worth over 100 billion euros (approximately 832.1 billion yuan). But French President Macron and German Chancellor Mertz have been embroiled in a dispute between companies over the construction of the European Future Air Combat System (FCAS), while Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez has remained indifferent. According to reports, the development plan for the sixth generation fighter jet in Europe is on the brink of collapse due to demands from French companies led by Dassault Aviation for greater dominance. Germany is angry at France's disregard for cross European cooperation. In the 'Future Air Combat System', the mutual accusations between French Dassault Systemes and Airbus Germany regarding the future development direction of the plan have never ceased. Previously, Dassault Systemes claimed that it could independently develop fighter jets without the need for cooperation with Germany and Spain. Since then, tensions have continued to escalate. Until a week ago, sources revealed that the French company wanted to control "80% of the project". The report also stated that for Airbus Germany, the hostile attitude shown by the French side has reached an unbearable level. German Airbus Defense and Space Company stated that it should seek new partners for cooperation. This situation has led German Chancellor Merz to publicly acknowledge differences with France. At a recent press conference with the NATO Secretary General, Mertz stated that he is in "dialogue" with Paris to "resolve this issue in the coming months". The German Chancellor emphasized that his intention is to continue advancing the project according to the existing plan, and "I hope we can comply with the agreement reached with Spain and France on the 'Future Air Combat System'. The report mentioned that since the launch of the "Future Air Combat System" program, the development of the sixth generation fighter jet in Europe has been controversial from both inside and outside the European Union. The refusal of Britain and Italy to join this plan has also intensified the confrontation between France and Germany. The UK has chosen to collaborate with Italy to design its own "Storm" fighter jet within the framework of the "Global Combat Air Program". At present, British Beiyi Systems, European Missile Group, Rolls Royce, Italian Leonardo, and Japan Aircraft Industry Revitalization Co., Ltd. are all involved. (New Society)
