Li Jiachao: 'Strike the market without stopping' arrangement to enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong as an international financial center

On September 21, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced that starting from September 23, 2024, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will implement a "no stop trading" arrangement to implement important reforms in the Hong Kong financial market, allowing the Hong Kong securities market to continue operating even in adverse weather conditions, further aligning with international standards, and enhancing market competitiveness. On the same day, Li Jiachao posted on social media that the SAR government has implemented a series of reform measures for the listing system in recent years, and the new stock market has shown a prosperous scene since the beginning of this year. As of mid July this year, there have been a total of 52 IPOs, a year-on-year increase of 30%, raising a total of HKD 124 billion, a year-on-year increase of 590%, temporarily ranking first in the world. The Hang Seng Index has risen by 25.3% so far this year. Li Jiachao said that in the future, the SAR government will continue to improve the listing system, further promote stock market liquidity, attract more high-quality companies from around the world to list in Hong Kong, and enhance the attractiveness and vitality of Hong Kong as a listing location. He stated that the SAR government is currently conducting consultations on a new policy address, which aims to integrate the wisdom of the government, enterprises, experts, and the public, and work together to promote the rapid development of Hong Kong.
