The 35th Hong Kong Book Fair, along with the Sports and Leisure Expo and Snack World, concluded on the 22nd, attracting 890000 visitors to the three exhibitions. Zhang Shufen, Vice President of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, said that the Hong Kong Book Fair has always been popular among citizens and tourists. Even though it was affected by the typhoon on the 20th, it still did not dampen the enthusiasm of book fans. Many people seized the time before and after the typhoon and actively entered to visit and experience leisure cultural activities, resulting in a smooth flow of people on site. The organizers have also advanced and extended the opening hours on the 21st, making every effort to strive for more sales and visiting opportunities for exhibitors and visitors, bringing this summer event to a successful conclusion. It is reported that this year marks the 35th edition of the Hong Kong Book Fair, with the annual theme of "Food Culture, Future Life". The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has specially launched three major discounts, which have received a warm response. Over 10000 people born in 1990 have enjoyed free admission discounts. Multiple lectures were packed with attendees, and renowned writers from various regions visited the venue to interact with book fans. The sports and leisure expo and snack world held at the same time provide a variety of experiences and cuisine, which complement the book fair and bring synergistic effects. The organizer commissioned a research institution to sample and interview over 860 attendees to understand their consumption budgets and reading habits. According to the survey, the average expenditure of respondents at the book fair this year was HKD 918, slightly higher than last year, accounting for 57% of the average expenditure on purchasing printed books throughout the year. In addition, over 90% of exhibitors at the three major exhibitions provide electronic payment services, and 81% of respondents use electronic payment. The main purpose of 55% of visitors to book fairs is to purchase the latest books, 49% to enjoy book discounts, and 27% to experience the cultural atmosphere of international book fairs. This shows that book fairs are still a place for book fans to find good books, and an important platform for the publishing industry to showcase new books and promote sales. The Hong Kong Book Fair is hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and opened on July 16th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Due to the impact of Typhoon Wipha, it will be temporarily closed for one day on the 20th. (New Society)
