Developing 'Robot+' to safeguard the granary of a great country
2025-07-24
With the deep integration and iterative upgrading of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, AI, digital twins, and swarm intelligence perception, grain depot robots will accelerate their evolution towards a more intelligent, collaborative, and inclusive direction, providing hardcore technological support for guarding the "national granary" and further enhancing grain storage capabilities. Robots are becoming the guardians of modern grain depots. At the 7th China Grain Trading Conference, the grain and flour intelligent closing system jointly developed by China Grain Reserves Corporation Chengdu Storage Research Institute Co., Ltd. and Xinhe Robot (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. made a stunning debut. This robot will form an intelligent array together with handling, high-altitude operations, sampling, fumigation, cleaning, inspection robots, etc., reshaping the management mode of grain depots and enabling them to bid farewell to the old era of "dust and dirt" and move towards a more efficient, accurate, and safe intelligent new era. Why use robots instead of human labor? This is an inevitable choice for China to build a modern grain reserve system. China's grain reserves are distributed throughout the country, serving as ballast stones, stabilizers, and reservoirs to ensure food security. However, traditional grain depots operate in harsh environments, with high reliance on manual labor for processes such as grain storage, retrieval, sampling, leveling, flipping, testing, and pest control. Workers carry burlap bags on their shoulders, climb grain piles, and sweat profusely, resulting in high labor intensity and low efficiency. They also face safety hazards such as dust explosions, collapse of grain piles, and falling from heights. Traditional grain monitoring mainly relies on manual experience judgment and manual recording of grain conditions, resulting in lag in grain monitoring, making it difficult to timely grasp inventory dynamics, temperature and humidity changes, and pest infestations, which can easily cause decision-making delays and result in food losses and waste. There is a structural shortage of labor force in our country, and labor costs continue to rise. Traditional operating models are difficult to adapt to the development needs of modern grain depots. Nowadays, various robots are gradually entering grain depots to undertake tasks such as transportation, inspection, leveling, patrol, and cleaning. Automated guided vehicles and unmanned forklifts achieve precise grain loading and unloading through laser navigation; The palletizing robot relies on visual recognition technology to automatically complete stacking operations for various types of packaging; Automatic sampling robot randomly samples to eliminate human errors; The inspection robot collects real-time data on temperature, humidity, pest infestations, and issues intelligent warnings; Various robots shuttle back and forth and work together in the grain depot, replacing manual chemical fumigation with fumigation robots, solving the risk of falling from high altitude with high-altitude operation robots, and continuously maintaining the cleanliness of the warehouse area with cleaning robots. The promotion and application of robots are profoundly reshaping the modern grain depot management mode, allowing workers to bid farewell to hardships, making management more scientific, and revitalizing traditional industries. Robots can work 24 hours a day without interruption, greatly improving work efficiency, especially in the peak season of procurement, which can avoid delays caused by insufficient manpower, completely changing the high dust, high-intensity, and high-risk working environment of grain depots, and significantly reducing accident rates. It has driven the digital transformation of grain depots, connecting grain depot data with planting, processing, logistics and other links, achieving full traceability of the entire grain process, and improving the efficiency of the entire industry chain. Promote the upgrading of the labor force structure, encourage grain depot workers to shift from manual labor to technical positions, give birth to emerging positions such as robot operation and maintenance, intelligent scheduling, and big data analysis, and promote the overall upgrading of the industrial workforce. Compared with traditional manual work, robot work has obvious advantages, but there are some constraints in the application and promotion process, such as large initial investment, insufficient technical adaptability, insufficient reserve of composite talents, and insufficient data interconnection and standardization. These problems should be addressed in a targeted manner. In terms of financial support, local governments should focus on supporting the intelligent transformation and upgrading of small and medium-sized grain depots through diversified support policies such as fiscal subsidies and low interest loans, and promote balanced development of the industry. In terms of improving technological adaptability, customized research and development should be used to meet the personalized needs of grain depots of different scales; Through multi machine cooperation, all kinds of robots such as transportation, patrol inspection and disinfection and sterilization can be effectively linked; Strengthen the research and development of special robots for dust prevention, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., to adapt to the special operating environment of grain depots. In terms of talent team building, we should deepen cooperation between schools and enterprises, and cultivate specialized robot operation and maintenance talents in a targeted manner; Strengthen on-the-job training and enhance the skill level of existing employees through systematic practical training. In terms of standardization construction, unified industry standards should be established to standardize robot interfaces and data formats, ensuring compatibility and interoperability between different systems; Promote the construction of a smart grain depot cloud platform, integrate core business data such as grain monitoring, robot scheduling, and warehouse management, build an intelligent decision support system, and comprehensively improve the efficiency of grain depot operation and management. With the deep integration and iterative upgrading of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, AI, digital twins, and swarm intelligence perception, grain depot robots will accelerate their evolution towards a more intelligent, collaborative, and inclusive direction, ultimately forming an unmanned operation system covering the entire process of warehousing, storage, and outbound, providing hardcore technological support for guarding the "national grain depot" and further enhancing grain reserve capabilities.
