2025-07-26
In November 2025, the 15th National Games (referred to as the "15th Games") will be held in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. As the first sports event jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, it will become an important window for the international community to perceive the development of the Bay Area and understand the story of China. The main venue, Guangzhou, will use this grand event as a link to connect the nostalgia of overseas Chinese around the world, showcasing the sports vitality, cultural heritage, and urban charm of the Bay Area to the world. On July 25th, the launch ceremony of the "National Movement Letters" collection activity for the "People's Letters" was held in Guangzhou, titled "Unity of Hearts in Guangzhou? Understanding the Patriotic Dream through the Letters of the National Movement". This event takes the 15th National Games as an opportunity and uses letters as a bridge to gather the strength of overseas Chinese and enhance the emotional connection between overseas Chinese and the motherland. The launching ceremony of the "National Movement Letters" collection activity for the "People's Family Letters" is guided by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Overseas Edition of People's Daily, and jointly organized by the Executive Committee of the 15th National Games and the Special Olympics for the Disabled in Guangzhou, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Zhigong Party, the Guangzhou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the Greater Bay Area Office of the China National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association. Nearly 100 relevant leaders, guests from all walks of life, and representatives of Chinese and overseas Chinese participated. Wang Huanqing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, stated that the purpose of this event is to further stimulate the passionate emotions of overseas Chinese towards their motherland and hometown, gather the wisdom and strength of global Chinese and overseas Chinese, and let everyone hold hands and work together with one heart and one heart to participate in this passionate and dream filled sports event. Through the joint participation in the National Games, we can demonstrate the profound feelings of unity between our families and our country. Li Fang, Deputy Editor in Chief of the Overseas Edition of People's Daily and a renowned writer, mentioned in his speech that the letters collected for the event will be widely disseminated and become a link between the sports dream of "small families" and the Chinese dream of "everyone". She hopes that overseas Chinese and sports soldiers can convey their hometown feelings and spirit of hard work through letters from home, and convey the shared aspirations of the Bay Area. Wang Boyong, Vice President and Secretary General of the China National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association, believes that this event will use "letters from home" as a medium to build a "bridge of the soul" and "bridge of perception" between the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and overseas Chinese. He calls on compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese to actively participate, use the sincere emotions conveyed in letters as a link, unite the joint efforts of unity and common direction, and inject a continuous stream of power into the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The ceremony broadcasted video blessings from Huo Qigang, Dean of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Sports Culture Research Institute and Vice President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and Su Bingtian, Dean of the School of Sports at Jinan University and an international level athlete. Huo Qigang expressed his expectations for the event in the video, while Su Bingtian conveyed his expectations for the 15th National Games based on his own experience. (Video Speech by Huo Qigang) (Video Speech by Su Bingtian) Through sharing family letters and stories, representatives of overseas Chinese not only express their deep emotions towards their country, but also provide encouragement for people to move forward in difficult situations. At the event, overseas Chinese representatives such as Li Karen, Rong Yisi, Zhao Weibin, and Luo Xiaozhen shared their family stories and prospects for the 15th National Games. (Interview and Exchange Session with Overseas Chinese Representatives) Li Karen, the ambassador for the 2025 Guangzhou International Sports Carnival, showcased the first home letter received during the event - a "home letter" written by two Sun Yat sen University alumni from Vancouver, Canada. Two overseas Chinese have been living in Vancouver for decades. In June, they led 21 local overseas Chinese organizations and alumni associations to hold the "Warm hearted Support and Inspire the 15th National Games" event. After learning about this solicitation, they wrote a "letter from home" overnight, expressing their hope to return to Guangzhou to watch the competition during the 15th National Games. Li Karen admitted that she empathizes with this passion, and this patriotic sentiment that transcends mountains and seas is exactly the overseas Chinese spirit that the "National Movement Letters" campaign wants to gather. Rong Yisi, an honorary citizen of Guangzhou and the president of Guangdong Donghu Chess Academy, brought several letters from his parents. Among them, the advice of the older generation of Chinese football players and their second uncle, Rong Zhixing, left a deep impression on him: "Always remember to serve the motherland overseas, and be kind to others when interacting with others." Rong Yisi said that he decided to return to China for development in 2010, which was inspired by this family letter. Now he is deeply involved in the field of Go education, not only committed to promoting Go culture and cultivating Go talents, but also promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries with the concept of "using Go as a bridge". He hopes to use this event to let more overseas compatriots feel the "unity of family and country behind sports events". Zhao Weibin, the provincial-level representative inheritor of Guangdong Xingshi, the fifth generation descendant of the "Zhao Family Lion", and the special consultant for the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games, moved the guests on site with a special family letter story. When he encountered difficulties in inheriting the intangible cultural heritage of lion dance, his father's letter from home quoted the poem by Zuo Zongtang, "A true iron man who can withstand the test of heaven and not be envied by others is a mediocre talent," which became his driving force to persevere. He stated that it is the power of this letter from home that supports him in continuously innovating while inheriting tradition, allowing the millennium lion dance culture to shine on the international stage. Zhao Jiashi Intangible Cultural Heritage Life Museum Director and Chinese American Luo Xiaozhen shared her "family letter story". She admitted that although she grew up overseas as a child, her parents repeatedly told her to "remember that she is Chinese", so that she could constantly improve her Chinese level. After coming to Guangzhou with her husband 18 years ago, the inclusiveness and vitality of this city deeply rooted her and she quickly integrated into it. She sincerely admires the warmth and humanistic charm of Guangzhou. The grand event of love, with messages from multiple sources, conveyed the sense of unity between the family and the country through the Bay Area Tongxin Song activity, which infected everyone present and ignited their eager anticipation for the 15th National Games. After the event, several representatives expressed their expectations for the 15th National Games in interviews. Liang Guanjun, the President of the American East Coast Chinese Association and a renowned representative of overseas Chinese, expressed that he is deeply proud of the joint hosting of the 15th National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. He believes that the Greater Bay Area combines unique vitality and profound heritage. He called on overseas Chinese to return to Guangzhou to support the grand event and use the platform of the 15th National Games to tell the stories of Guangzhou and China well. Rong Yisi, an honorary citizen of Guangzhou and the president of Guangdong Donghu Chess Academy, believes that the "National Games Letters" collection activity is of great significance. For me, letters from home are the bond that connects my family and country, "he said. Letters carry family affection and warmth, and this 15th National Games is the window to convey this emotion and sportsmanship. He hopes to receive more letters full of hometown and family love from the event collection, so that people can feel sincere emotions between the lines, understand the power of unity between families and countries, and the national pride surging in sports events. Lin Huibin, Director of the Tianhe District Hong Kong and Macao Residents Service Center and a member of the Guangzhou Municipal Political Consultative Conference, expressed in an interview that he hopes more Hong Kong compatriots can feel the enthusiasm of the joint hosting of the 15th National Games by the three regions. He also hopes that the younger generation, including his own children, can deeply experience the 15th National Games and the cultural traditions of the country. Liu Hongli, the chairman of the Overseas Chinese New Branch of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, stated that many members of her branch have overseas experience or overseas Chinese backgrounds, and shoulder the responsibility of serving as a communication bridge. She believes that as the main venue of the 15th National Games, Guangzhou is renowned worldwide for its profound cultural heritage, active economic vitality, and strong sports atmosphere. The branch will rely on the overseas resources of party members to vigorously promote this national level event to overseas youth. This event takes the "National Games Family Letter" as a small incision, linking the 15th National Games with the family letter, allowing warmth, strength, and blessings to be transmitted in the Greater Bay Area. It is reported that the event will last for one month, and the collection content includes past events related to the 15th National Games, words to family members, memories of Guangzhou city, etc. The forms include text, pictures, videos, audio, etc. The organizer will select some works for collection and exhibition at the Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Museum.
