On July 27th, the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention announced that from 0:00 on July 20th, 2025 to 24:00 on July 26th, Guangdong Province reported 2940 new local cases of chikungunya fever, with no severe or fatal cases reported. There are 2882 cases distributed in Foshan, 22 cases in Guangzhou, 18 cases in Zhongshan, 3 cases each in Dongguan, Zhuhai, and Heyuan, 2 cases each in Jiangmen, Yangjiang, and Zhaoqing, and 1 case each in Qingyuan, Shenzhen, and Zhanjiang. As of 24:00 on July 26th, Guangdong Province has reported a total of 4824 local cases of chikungunya fever this year, all of which are mild, with no reports of severe or fatal cases. At present, 3224 cases have been cured and discharged from hospital or released from medical observation. Kang Min, director of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Institute of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stated that chikungunya fever is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes (commonly known as spotted mosquitoes) infected with the virus, and the symptoms are mainly characterized by fever, severe joint pain, and rash. Most symptoms are mild and can recover on their own after 1 to 2 weeks of illness, but a few patients may experience chronic joint pain (lasting for months or even years). All age groups are susceptible, but it is necessary to focus on severe high-risk groups, including perinatal infected newborns, elderly people aged 65 and above, and patients with hypertension, diabetes or heart disease and other basic diseases.
