The morning light is slightly dew, the breeze is gentle, and the rice ears hang low and sway. The arrival of the harvest season brings endless joy to the villagers of the hybrid rice poverty reduction demonstration village in Rukalam Reclamation Area, Bujumbura Rural Province, Burundi. Look at these heavy rice ears, they will be harvested soon. ”When I saw 30-year-old Faustin Ndaysinga, he was checking the growth of rice in his own paddy field. This year, I planted 2 hectares of hybrid rice, conservatively estimating that each hectare can produce 10 tons of rice, which was unimaginable before Chinese experts came. Three years ago, Ndayexinjia started planting hybrid rice, and now he has not only built a new house but also raised many livestock. With the help of Chinese experts, more and more farmers are becoming skilled planters, "said Ndayexinga. The harvest picture of Burundi villages cannot be separated from the unremitting efforts of Chinese experts. Since August 2009, China has implemented the technical cooperation project for senior agricultural experts in Burundi. Up to now, China has sent six groups of agricultural experts to promote high-quality rice varieties in Burundi's fields, teach advanced agricultural technologies and scientific planting concepts, and help improve the quality and increase production of local food. Yang Huade, the leader of the China aided Burundi Agricultural Expert Group, told the reporter that the expert group had established 76 demonstration villages in 15 major rice producing areas, successfully bred 7 rice varieties suitable for the local area, planted 3800 hectares of hybrid rice, and achieved an annual increase of 28500 tons and an increase of 14.25 million dollars. "With the help of successive Chinese expert groups, Burundi's rice production has achieved a historic breakthrough, and the lives of many farmers have been significantly improved." Along the winding road, the reporter came to the rice planting cooperative in Bujiga Village, Rutana Province. The person in charge, Anaklet, took out a map and introduced the hybrid rice demonstration field here to the reporter. At present, 75 hectares of demonstration fields have been successfully planted, and the villagers have tasted the sweetness. By combining good varieties with advanced technology, rice can achieve higher yields. The villagers have also built new houses and sent their children to better schools. ”Anaklet drew a circle on the map with a red pen while speaking. "The cooperative can plant an area of 280 hectares, and next year we will have golden rice waves cover this land." It is reported that in 2023, the expert group will trial planting a total of 145 hectares of hybrid rice in Rutana Province, with the yield per hectare increasing from less than 3 tons to over 9 tons. At present, the planting area of hybrid rice in Rutana Province has expanded to 900 hectares, and the highest yield per hectare of rice fields has exceeded 12 tons. Rutana Province has become another granary of Burundi. Gedian, a villager from Bujijia Village, told reporters that before the arrival of Chinese experts, the yield per hectare of rice fields at home was only 2.5 to 3 tons; After planting hybrid rice, the yield per hectare reaches over 10 tons. "Our income has greatly increased, and Chinese experts have changed our family's life." It is reported that since 2020, the Chinese expert group has innovatively adopted the mode of "productive investment fund" to promote hybrid rice planting in four villages of Linge, Bubanza Province, Burundi. The fund can help farmers to prepare seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. needed for the next season's production in a timely manner. This production mode has led all 1072 people from 134 households to get rid of poverty in the village, and has been successfully promoted in 56 poverty reduction demonstration villages in Burundi. The government of Burundi has included "relying on the rice high-yield technology of the agricultural aid group to help alleviate poverty" in the national agricultural development plan. "The arrival of Chinese experts has injected new impetus into Burundi's agricultural development. ”The minister of Burundi's Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Prosper Dodiko, said that the technical cooperation project of China's aid to senior agricultural experts in Burundi not only significantly improved Burundi's rice production, but also cultivated a number of agricultural technology backbones, enhancing the independent development capacity of Burundi's agriculture.
