According to Spanish government sources, the Spanish government has shelved plans to purchase a batch of American F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. The Western government has suspended preliminary contacts with the US regarding the purchase of these fighter jets and instead sought alternative solutions in Europe. This plan is part of Spain's efforts to fulfill NATO commitments and increase defense spending. The Spanish government approved a total of 10.471 billion euros in April this year for security and defense spending, in order to achieve the goal of increasing defense spending to 2% of GDP.
