The new special exhibition "Hong Kong Jockey Club Presentation Series: Mughal Dynasty Treasures - Collected by the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK" at the Palace Museum in Hong Kong was officially opened to the public on the 6th. The exhibition selects over 100 artistic treasures from the golden age of the Mughal dynasty and showcases the artistic exchanges between China and the Mughal court. This exhibition is jointly organized by the Palace Museum in Hong Kong and the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK. The exhibits cover categories such as painting, jewelry, architectural components, weapons, textiles, ceramics, etc. It is reported that a special exhibition with the same theme was first held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK from late 2024 to early 2025. The exhibition held at the Palace Museum in Hong Kong is the only stop in Asia. On the basis of the London exhibition, the Hong Kong exhibition highlights the stories of the Mughal court's exchange with China and other cultures, enriching the history of the Mughal dynasty. Hong Kong artists are invited to incorporate multimedia interactive installations and Hong Kong elements into the exhibition design, making the exhibition more accessible to Hong Kong audiences. Kong Lingcheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, stated that promoting international cultural exchange is one of the founding missions of the museum. This exhibition will help further consolidate the museum's key role as a platform for cultural dialogue between China and foreign countries, and promote the integration of diverse arts and cultures around the world. I hope this exhibition can deepen the audience's understanding of the exchange and mutual learning of world civilizations. Emily Hannam, curator of the South Asian Art Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK, said that this exhibition provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for more audiences to explore the international art and culture of the Mughal court. I am very pleased to share with the Hong Kong audience the outstanding craftsmanship works of this historical period full of art and design. During the Hong Kong International Cultural Summit Forum held by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in 2024, the Palace Museum of Hong Kong and the Victoria and Albert Museum signed a letter of intent for cooperation. This exhibition is one of the important achievements of their cooperation. This exhibition will last until February 23, 2026. (New Society)
