The reporter learned from the Cultural Bureau of the Macau SAR Government that 25 Macau teenagers recently staged the Cantonese opera "Yang Family Generals" at the Yongle Theatre in Macau, promoting the loyalty and bravery spirit of Yang Family Generals, inheriting excellent traditional culture, showcasing the artistic learning achievements in Cantonese opera singing, posture, performance skills, and other aspects, attracting many citizens to come and watch. Cantonese opera was listed on the United Nations Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2009. The students participating in the drama "The Martyrs of the Yang Family" learned Cantonese opera performance skills, body language, and teamwork through the children's and youth Cantonese opera courses at the Macau Academy for Performing Arts Theatre School, and gained an understanding of the traditional Chinese culture and historical knowledge contained in Cantonese opera art. Parents of students expressed that the performance provides a stage for students to showcase their artistic talents and learning achievements, helping them accumulate performance experience, expand their artistic horizons, and allow parents and the public to witness their children's growth. It is reported that the Macao Academy for Performing Arts, as an art education institution under the jurisdiction of the Macao Cultural Bureau, is committed to cultivating local children and young Cantonese opera talents. Since its drama school opened Cantonese opera courses in 2019, it has trained hundreds of students. Some students went from scratch to win the "Little Plum Blossom Award" for Chinese children's opera, while others attempted to integrate Cantonese opera singing into popular music creation, or aspired to become Cantonese opera actors and directors. The relevant courses have promoted the inheritance and development of Cantonese opera art in Macau, showcasing Macau's excellent mechanism for cultivating cultural and artistic talents.
