A spokesperson for the Hong Kong SAR government stated on the 13th that the nomination period for the Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council election will begin on October 24th and run until November 6th. According to the Legislative Council Ordinance, in order to facilitate the holding of the Legislative Council general election, the Chief Executive may suspend the Legislative Council session before the end of its term to terminate the operation of the Legislative Council. A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government stated that after considering relevant election laws and the consistent practice of public elections in the past, the Chief Executive has designated October 24th as the date for the suspension of the seventh Legislative Council session, and its operation will also be terminated accordingly. The voting for the 8th Legislative Council election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is scheduled for December 7th, which will elect 90 members of the 8th Legislative Council.
