On August 18th, the official Weibo account of Sina Weibo Community Management, @ Weibo Administrator, announced that four Weibo accounts have been punished with reduced account exposure, temporary ban, and even permanent ban for "inciting gender opposition". Counting the issues listed for these accounts, they mainly focus on "long-term posting insulting and attacking remarks against the opposite sex group", "multiple posting vulgar and mocking remarks against the opposite sex", "frequent hype of social hot topics, deliberately leading the topic towards gender conflicts", and so on. It can be seen that conducting group attacks on the opposite sex is precisely the traffic password of these accounts. It has to be said that in recent years, extreme provocation of gender opposition seems to easily resonate. The reasons are not complicated, and the simplified, rough, and extreme logic of discourse is the easiest to capture the "audience": there is no threshold for understanding, and complex life phenomena and problems can be attributed to a universal, seemingly "huge", ubiquitous but irrefutable group - the opposite sex, which can easily cater to the spleen and stomach of some people. But ultimately, this is also a dangerous traffic trap. As mentioned above, this logic is "simplified, rough, and extreme", and the loopholes are actually very obvious. As people often say, 'a thousand people have a thousand faces'. Even with such huge individual differences between people, how can we use a summary that divides the entire population into two parts to explain all social phenomena? So gender opposition may not provide a rational solution, but it can provide a destructive emotion of left and right conflict. Creating hostility in cyberspace, elevating individual behavior to a higher level, and generalizing moral judgments on social topics. This not only does not contribute to true gender equality, but also easily hijacks the direction of public discussion, causing social improvement that could have been promoted through discussion and consensus to fall into a vortex of emotional release one after another. And now, with these accounts being processed, not only has it sounded the alarm for some self media, but it should also alert public opinion. Gender issues should be a "complex proposition" that requires patient disassembly and rational discussion, as well as a "group collaboration" that can only move forward through understanding, respect, and equality. If inflammatory emotions are allowed to engulf the public discourse and elevate individual experiences infinitely into group conflicts, it will ultimately drown out constructive voices and cause the social improvement that should have been promoted to deviate step by step from the right track.
