At the 9th International Conference on Western Xia Studies and the Academic Seminar on the Cultural Heritage Value of Western Xia Tombs held on the 22nd, the "Western Xia Comprehensive Gazetteer" compiled by Chinese experts after 8 years made its debut, filling the gap in large-scale Western Xia historical works at home and abroad. It is reported that the "Xixia Tongzhi" is a major project achievement of the National Social Science Fund in 2015, completed in 2022, and officially published in August of this year. This historical masterpiece consists of 11 volumes with over 4 million words, including "Outline of Western Xia History", "Geography of Western Xia", "Economy of Western Xia", "Officials of Western Xia", "Military Records of Western Xia", "People of Western Xia", "Tribes of Western Xia", "Customs of Western Xia", "Language of Western Xia", "Documents of Western Xia", and "Cultural Relics of Western Xia". In 1038 AD, the Dangxiang ethnic group established the Western Xia regime, which coexisted with the Song, Liao, and Jin dynasties. Its capital was located in Xingqing Prefecture (now Yinchuan, Ningxia), and it once dominated the Hexi Corridor at its peak. It was destroyed in 1227. The Yuan Dynasty compiled the histories of Song, Liao, and Jin, but did not provide a specialized biographical history for the Western Xia Dynasty. The editor in chief of the book and dean of the School of Ethnic and Historical Studies at Ningxia University, Du Jianlu, said that existing materials cannot compile a biographical history of the Western Xia, and contemporary chapter based Western Xia history cannot accommodate more content. In view of this, they began planning and compiling the "Western Xia Chronicles" in 2008. This multi volume work falls between the genres of biographical and episodic history, combining China's historical theories and chronicles. It is innovative in the research style and methods of Western Xia history and even ancient Chinese history. ”He said. It is understood that in order to complete the manuscript with high quality, the research team, in combination with the characteristics of the Western Xia literature, tried to cross verify as many as possible, combined the underground unearthed literature with the handed down ancient books, the Western Xia literature with the Chinese literature and other national characters, the Tiansheng Law, the New Law of the Year of Hai, the Law, the Zhenguan Jade Mirror General and other institutional data with the operational data such as sales, lending, leasing, military copying, registered residence, and domestic and foreign research. Shi Jinbo, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that the "Comprehensive Records of Western Xia" to some extent compensates for the lack of compilation of Western Xia history in the Yuan Dynasty, and its content is rich and plain. "With the 'Western Xia Mausoleum' listed in the The World Heritage List, the study of Western Xia will attract more attention from all walks of life. The introduction of this achievement will add new heat to the burgeoning study of Western Xia and open a new window for readers to learn about the history of Western Xia." (Le News Agency)
