On the afternoon of August 28th, Dr. Su Tong, an honorary doctorate from the City University of Macau, gave a special lecture on "My Literary Life" to kick off the upcoming new academic year. The lecture was presided over by Liu Jun, President of the City University of Macau, and was fully attended by nearly 700 teachers and students. Under the theme of "Writers are the spokespersons of the times", Su Tong reviews his creative process of publishing his first novel in 1983 and his first collection of novels in 1988, revisiting his exchanges and interactions with contemporary writers, as well as their diverse writing experiences. He encourages his classmates to broaden their life boundaries, enrich their life experiences, and cultivate humanistic literacy through reading. During the conversation, linguist Liu Jun said, "Su Tong was awarded an honorary Doctor of Literature degree from the City University of Macau this spring. This is a 'shortcut' for students from the University to get closer to the literary world, and it also gives us a rare opportunity to start the new academic year with literary lectures." He then asked Su Tong, "In the current era where artificial intelligence is increasingly involved in real life, can choosing to study literature give us more wisdom? The theme of the lecture was extended by Principal Liu Jun, "Su Tong replied with a smile. The breadth and breadth of literature imbues life with warmth and thickness, allowing people to broaden their horizons, maintain a peaceful mindset, and be spiritually enriched, facing constant changes and uncertainties with equanimity. Literature may seem useless, but it is for great use and a dialectical unity, "Su Tong said. During the on-site Q&A session, students enthusiastically asked questions, ranging from the generation gap in literature, to methods of character creation, adaptation of literary works, and even the future of local literature. Su Tong answered each question seriously and presented his own works to the students who asked questions on site. I didn't expect to have so many young readers in Macau, "Su Tong couldn't help but feel emotional when he saw his classmates queuing up to sign their purchased collections of" Rice, "" Red Powder, "" Yellow Sparrow, "" Wives and Concubines. Facing one's favorite writer face-to-face is already meaningful in itself. At the same time, it also provides people with the opportunity to view the work from the author's perspective, deepen their understanding, and benefit greatly. ”The classmates exchanged their gains with each other, continuing the popularity of the lecture. Actively participating, actively asking questions, and queuing up to sign, these scenes of classmates' love for literature make me feel gratified and full of confidence for the future. ”Liu Jun immediately stated that he will continue to hold lectures next year and invite more honorary PhDs from the City University of Macau to bring the insights, thoughts, and inspirations of writers to the students.
