On the 4th, in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, representatives of the government of Atyrau Oblast in Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of cooperation with local enterprises in Ningxia on desertification prevention and control. This is the first cooperation on desertification prevention and control between China and Central Asia since the establishment of the China Central Asia Desertification Prevention and Control Cooperation Center in the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in July this year. Ningxia is the only provincial-level comprehensive demonstration area for desertification prevention and control in China, with rich experience in desertification control. In order to promote the implementation of the results of the Second China Central Asia Summit, the China Central Asia Desertification Prevention and Control Cooperation Center has taken the initiative to communicate and connect with Central Asian countries, actively promoting the exchange and cooperation of desertification prevention and control technologies. In July of this year, the Ningxia Forestry and Grassland Bureau organized relevant enterprises to visit Kazakhstan for inspection, and the government of Atyrau Oblast expressed a strong desire for cooperation. From September 3rd to 6th this year, Nurtayev Kerat Tarapovich, Deputy Governor of Atyrau Oblast in Kazakhstan, led a delegation to Ningxia to investigate and research desertification prevention and control work. They signed two cooperation memorandums with three enterprises, Ningxia Ningmiao Ecological Construction Group Co., Ltd., Qinglong Pipe Industry Group Co., Ltd., and Ningxia Water Resources and Hydropower Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd., respectively, for desertification prevention and control, urban drainage system renovation, and sewage treatment plant upgrading. It is reported that about 65% of the total area in Atyrau Prefecture is desertified land, with severe grassland degradation and prominent issues of salinization. About 40% of agricultural land is affected by varying degrees of salinization. Nurtayev Kerat Tarapovic said, "We visited projects in public utilities, ecological governance, and other areas in Ningxia, which aroused our great interest. After signing the cooperation agreement, we believe that many large-scale projects will be jointly implemented on this basis, and we are willing to provide support from all aspects
