In order to make meritorious contributions and reduce criminal responsibility, Wu, Zhang, and others directed, performed, and choreographed a "big play", which backfired. Recently, the first instance judgment of Wu's obstruction of testimony and Zhang's assistance in forging evidence, which were prosecuted by the Xianju County Procuratorate in Zhejiang Province, has come into effect. On October 10, 2023, Wu was investigated by the public security organs on suspicion of illegal fishing of aquatic products (a separate case judgment). In order to reduce his criminal responsibility, he wanted to make contributions by providing criminal clues. Suffering from a lack of clues at hand, he found a middleman named Zhang and met Chen through Zhang. On November 4th, Wu and three others discussed: Wu would contribute funds, Chen would arrange for personnel to illegally fish, and Wu would report and make contributions. The next day, Wu transferred 10000 yuan to Chen through WeChat, and the two carefully selected the fishing spot. Subsequently, Chen sought the help of Wang, Xu, and Wu to "fish" and paid a reward of 5000 yuan. Wang and the other three were filled with fear and dared not personally "take action", so they "subcontracted" the task to Zhu. Zhu then arranged for Pan to go to the river and use an electric scooter to catch fish. But Pan couldn't catch fish with an electric battery, so Wang and others had to take a few fish from Chen's restaurant as Pan's "catch". After several twists and turns, Pan finally caught a fish at the agreed location. Subsequently, Wu reported to the police. Law enforcement officers rushed to the scene, arrested Pan on the spot, and transferred the case to the public security organs. Pan made a false confession to the public security organs as agreed, falsely claiming that he was illegally fishing in the river. On February 2, 2024, after the completion of the investigation by the public security organs, the case was transferred to the procuratorial organs for examination and prosecution. During this period, after being reported by others, the procuratorial organs further examined and found that Pan did not engage in illegal fishing activities, so they transferred the criminal clues to the public security organs. After the investigation by the public security organs is completed, the case will be transferred to the procuratorial organs for review and prosecution. On March 12, 2025, the procuratorial organs prosecuted Wu, Zhang, and others on suspicion of obstructing testimony and aiding in the fabrication of evidence. On July 3rd, the court sentenced Wu and others to six months' imprisonment to two months' detention after trial. (New Society)
