The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail celebrated its seventh anniversary of opening on the 23rd. This passenger section set a record for the highest monthly passenger volume since its opening in August this year. The MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) stated that the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail is highly popular among cross-border passengers, and has carried over 90 million passengers since its opening. Among them, the passenger volume reached 20 million in the first eight months of this year, an increase of nearly 20% year-on-year; In August, more than 3.2 million passengers were recorded, setting a new record for monthly passenger volume since the establishment of Tongche. Yang Meizhen, Executive Director (Hong Kong Passenger Services) of MTR Corporation, stated that the passenger volume of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail continues to reach new highs, reflecting the booming development trend brought about by the deepening integration between mainland China and Hong Kong. She stated that high-speed rail will continue to play an important role in connecting mainland China and Hong Kong, consolidating its important position as a regional transportation hub, while continuously optimizing services to provide passengers with a safer, more comfortable, and convenient travel experience. As an important transportation infrastructure connecting mainland China and Hong Kong, the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail continues to undergo comprehensive upgrades in terms of frequency, stations, and services, further strengthening the connectivity and cultural exchanges between mainland China and Hong Kong. At present, the passenger transport section provides over 100 pairs of train services per day, connecting 96 direct stations to the mainland, which is more than double the number when it was opened. To accurately match the travel needs of different passengers, the route has launched multiple targeted services: providing "flexible travel" services for passengers traveling between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Futian Station, and Shenzhen North Station, and offering fare discounts such as "20 time counted tickets" and "30 day regular tickets" for short distance passengers on the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong section; Upgrade the Beijing Hong Kong and Shanghai Hong Kong through trains to high-speed sleeper trains that depart in the evening and arrive in the morning, and introduce special trips in the form of tourist trains to facilitate group travel. MTR Corporation stated that West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong is also synchronously improving its facilities and services, including adding tables, chairs, and green elements in the passenger waiting area, introducing diversified merchants such as catering, banking, and tourism services, and strengthening real-time content release such as customs clearance and train arrival information through large screens.
