As Typhoon Huajiasa gradually moves away, social life in Macau is returning to normal. On the 25th, multiple public departments, clubs, volunteer teams, and others in Macau carried out cleanup work on major streets in various districts to assist residents and businesses in restoring normal living order as soon as possible. According to the data from the Macao SAR Government's Geophysical and Meteorological Bureau, the typhoon "Hua Gaza Strip" is approaching, and the bureau has issued the second "Typhoon Signal No. 10" of this year, which has been in effect for the longest time, reaching 10.5 hours. During the effective period of Typhoon Signal No. 10, the maximum 10 minute average wind speed recorded in various districts of Macau reached level 12, with the highest gust reaching level 14. At the same time, the storm intensified with astronomical high tide levels, causing severe flooding in Macau on a large scale, with the highest flooding height in the Inner Harbor area reaching 1.51 meters. Before the typhoon arrived, the SAR government was on high alert. The Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region, together with five department heads, held a special meeting to jointly deploy a series of measures to deal with the "Hua Gaza Strip" and demand maximum protection of the safety of citizens' lives and property. As the "Hua Gaza Strip" approaches, the civil defense structure held a press conference on the morning of the 23rd to issue warnings and a series of response measures to the public. The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau issued an orange storm surge warning at 13:00 on the same day and a "Typhoon Signal No. 8" at 17:00. According to the instructions of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, starting from 13:00 on the same day, the Macao Special Administrative Region entered a state of immediate prevention. The evacuation plan for low-lying areas during typhoon surges will be implemented simultaneously. The evacuation operation is carried out by an evacuation team composed of Macau Customs, Public Security Police, Judicial Police, Fire Department, and Macau Security Forces Higher School, together with the Municipal Affairs Department, Social Work Bureau, Transport Affairs Bureau, and Macau Red Cross Society of the SAR government. The operation was completed around 17:00 on the 23rd, during which 3236 people were successfully evacuated. In order to cooperate with the operation, 17 shelters and 4 emergency evacuation stops in Macau have been fully opened to the public, with a total of 705 people staying during this period. In response to the fierce typhoon, Macau has implemented multiple measures in transportation, customs clearance services, livelihood security, and obstacle clearance operations, making every effort to prevent, resist, and resume normal operations after the storm. At 23:00 on the 24th, the Geophysical and Meteorological Bureau issued a "Typhoon Signal No. 3". According to the instructions of the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region, the immediate prevention status will be terminated from 23:00 on the same day. Summarizing the work in response to the "Huajiasha" incident, the Secretary for Security and Joint Operations Commander of the Special Administrative Region Government, Huang Shaoze, stated that under the leadership of the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region, all departments have worked together to prepare various early warnings and response plans in advance. Despite Macau being hit by a Category 12 hurricane and experiencing widespread severe flooding, no major accidents occurred during the period, and the society was able to recover in a short period of time. He stated that the response to the "Huajiasha" incident fully reflects the modern civil defense work model led by the SAR government, with diverse community participation and active cooperation from citizens. He hopes that all sectors of society will continue to work together to build a strong social security line and minimize the impact of possible natural disasters on Macau. (New Society)
