Reporters learned from the 2025 (6th) China Internet Basic Resources Conference held on October 18 that the Report on the Development of Generative AI Applications (2025) released by China Internet Network Information Center (hereinafter referred to as the Report) showed that by June 2025, the number of users of generative AI in China had reached 515 million, with a penetration rate of 36.5%. Generative artificial intelligence is gradually integrating into the daily lives of various groups in China, with the user base doubling in half a year. Among them, middle-aged and young people, as well as highly educated users, are the core user groups. According to the report, in the first half of the year, the number of users of generative artificial intelligence in China increased by 266 million, a growth of 106.6%. Among all users of generative artificial intelligence, the proportion of young and middle-aged users under 40 years old reaches 74.6%, and the proportion of users with college, undergraduate or higher education is 37.5%. Chinese enterprises actively invest in the research and development of generative artificial intelligence technology, and domestically produced generative artificial intelligence models have been widely favored by users, promoting intelligent transformation and upgrading in various application scenarios. The report shows that on the one hand, with the rapid development of domestic generative artificial intelligence technology, related products are becoming increasingly mature, and user experience has significantly improved. A survey on the most commonly used products by users of generative artificial intelligence found that over 90% of users would first choose to use domestically produced large models. On the other hand, as of August 2025, a total of 538 generative artificial intelligence services have been registered in China, and 263 generative artificial intelligence applications or functions have been registered. Generative artificial intelligence is widely used in various scenarios such as intelligent search, content creation, office assistants, and intelligent hardware. It has also been actively explored and practiced in fields such as agricultural production, industrial manufacturing, and scientific research. In the next stage, the development of generative artificial intelligence is expected to achieve new results in five aspects: model integration will create a new form of artificial intelligence, open source communities will provide new impetus for technological progress, embodied intelligence will bring new interactive experiences to users, intelligent agents will expand new boundaries of artificial intelligence capabilities, and improved governance will take artificial intelligence to a new level. ”Zhang Xiao, deputy director of China Internet Network Information Center, said.
