2025-10-21

On the 20th, Li Huiqiong, Chairperson of the House Committee of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stated at a press conference that a total of 130 bills were passed during the four-year session of the seventh Legislative Council, which is 49 more than the sixth Legislative Council. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the Legislative Council in doing practical things with the will to do good and achieve good results under the executive led system. Li Huiqiong said that the current term of the Legislative Council is coming to an end. Looking back on the past four years, legislators have kept in mind their original aspirations and missions, actively taken on responsibilities, and acted as steadfast patriots, maintainers of the administrative led system, true spokespersons for public opinion, and high-quality rulers. The legislative and executive branches complement and balance each other, continuously improving the governance efficiency of Hong Kong and implementing the principle of 'one country, two systems'. Li Huiqiong stated that at a critical juncture in the process of governance and revitalization, Hong Kong needs to undergo change and innovation. Looking ahead to the future, we hope that under the leadership of the Chief Executive, the executive authorities will continue to maintain close communication with the eighth Legislative Council to better serve the people of Hong Kong. Members of parliament will actively contribute to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, shoulder the responsibility of promoting better development of Hong Kong society and actively integrating into the overall development of the country, tell the story of the country and Hong Kong well, and play a better role in achieving good governance in Hong Kong.
