On the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, technicians are making final commissioning of relevant communication facilities. This bridge connecting the three regions will become the track for the cycling (road) race of the 15th National Games of China. The 15th National Games is the first large-scale comprehensive sports event hosted by the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area as a whole. Taking the National Games as an opportunity, major cities in the Greater Bay Area will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in sports, culture, economy, society and other fields, and jointly promote high-quality development. The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has shown outstanding performance in building an international first-class bay area and world-class urban agglomeration. The latest data shows that in 2024, the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area will surpass the world-class bay areas of New York and San Francisco with an economic output of 14.79 trillion yuan. The "race economy" ignites the vitality of the Bay Area. "1, 2, 1, 2..." In the sound of neat chants, on October 12, the 2025 Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Youth Loong Boat Invitational Competition kicked off in Xianxi Campus of Foshan University. Nearly 300 young students from 14 universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the Loong Boat Race jointly sponsored by the University of Macao and Foshan University. The 'event economy' is helping the booming economy of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to move forward. In the first half of this year, the General Office of the State Administration of Sport issued a notice on the release of the pilot list for promoting sports consumption and event economy, and Guangzhou and Shenzhen were selected for this list. In 2024, Guangzhou will host 142 provincial-level and above events, as well as nearly 200 large-scale mass activities. The total scale of sports consumption will reach 63.125 billion yuan, with a per capita consumption of 3345.51 yuan, ranking among the top in the country. By 2025, Guangzhou is forming a full-time layout and a comprehensive sports consumption system of "mountains, waters, cities, pavilions, gardens, and air". In the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, where the average age of the resident population is only 32.5 years old, a series of high-end events were held last year, including the International Basketball Federation Three Person Basketball Masters Shenzhen Futian Station, China Badminton Masters, Shenzhen Marathon, and the World Sailing Challenge Tour Finals. During this year's National Day and Mid Autumn Festival holiday, Guangdong Province organized 140 mass sports events, a year-on-year increase of 33.3%. On September 16th, the "Marine Geology II" scientific research vessel set sail with the "Haima" deep-sea remote-controlled submersible, empowering the development of the Bay Area through technological innovation. The "Haima" is a deep-sea remotely operated submersible developed under the leadership of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey Bureau. It can replace human underwater construction up to 4500 meters deep. The destination of this trip is the Haima Cold Spring area with a water depth of about 1500 meters, collecting fire for the 15th National Games. The pursuit of dreams in the deep sea, burning ice into flames "is not only a major innovation in the collection of sparks for the National Games, but also a microcosm of technological innovation in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. On September 1st, the World Intellectual Property Organization released the "2025 Global Innovation Index" of the world's top 100 technology clusters in Hong Kong, with the "Shenzhen Hong Kong Guangzhou" cluster ranking first. Liu Chenli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Advanced Technology Research Institute, told reporters that as an important node of the innovation system in the Greater Bay Area, the Institute has produced an average of 4.7 patents and 1.3 licensed patents every day in the past five years, and targeted to match the needs of enterprises by linking institutions such as Shenzhen Stock Exchange and University Technology Transfer Center. The country has laid out 9 major scientific and technological infrastructure here, and the Dongguan Spallation Neutron Source has been opened for sharing with scientists from Hong Kong, Macao, and around the world. Pengcheng Laboratory, Guangzhou Laboratory, and other laboratories are steadily operating, and 31 Guangdong Hong Kong Macao joint laboratories have been established to jointly empower scientific and technological innovation in the Greater Bay Area. Ding Li, an economics researcher at the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, believes that the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area is shifting its development engine towards the "engineer dividend" centered on high-quality human capital. At present, the number of R&D personnel in the province has reached 1.58 million, with 46000 foreign talents holding valid certificates. Since its official opening on October 23, 2018, the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, which connects the three regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, has facilitated high-quality development through the Bay Area Unicom. Over the past seven years, the number of passengers traveling between the bridge and the Zhuhai highway port in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau has exceeded 93.34 million, with a total of over 19.42 million vehicles. On the eve of this year's National Day and Mid Autumn Festival holiday, three intercity railways and two subway lines have been put into operation in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. According to the person in charge of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transport, after the opening of the new line, it will take 30 minutes to reach Baiyun Airport from Guangzhou Pazhou Station, 30 minutes to reach the central urban areas of Foshan and Dongguan, and 60 minutes to reach Shenzhen Airport, Zhaoqing, and Huizhou. These past two years have been really convenient. In the past, it used to take us over 3 hours to drive to Shenzhen, but now it takes just over an hour to get there. ”Like Ms. Wang, a resident of Zhuhai, more and more people choose to settle down in Zhuhai and work in Shenzhen. In addition to the increasingly strengthened transportation connections, the integration of rules and communities has also enabled more and more people to move freely within the Bay Area. As of now, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have jointly released 262 "Bay Area Standards" covering 36 areas including transportation, water conservancy, traditional Chinese medicine, green ecology, and elderly care services. Nowadays, in the hot land of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, the integration and development are advancing rapidly, and a world-class urban agglomeration is rising on the coast of the South China Sea.
