On November 12, 2025, Datuk Wong Kwok Fai, Overseas Committee Member of the All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Executive Vice President of the Sarawak China Friendship Association, and leader of the Malaysian Kuching Education and Culture Delegation, visited Liwan District, Guangzhou to conduct research and cultural exchange activities. The delegation visited the Liwan Museum (Liwan Overseas Chinese Exhibition Hall), Yongqing Fang China Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Base, and Cantonese Opera Art Museum to fully appreciate the historical heritage and cultural charm of Liwan as an important birthplace of Lingnan culture. The delegation visited the Yongqing Fang China Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Base and had a deep understanding of the inheritance of traditional intangible cultural heritage such as Xiangyun yarn dyeing and finishing techniques and Song Dynasty tea picking during the intangible cultural heritage experience. Under the on-site guidance of Huang Jianhong, a representative inheritor of Guangzhou Tea Art (Tea Picking Techniques) and a standing committee member of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, the delegation personally participated in tea making and intuitively felt the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture. Subsequently, Bu Zhiqun, Chairman of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, and Datuk Huang Guohui conducted in-depth discussions on strengthening educational and cultural exchanges, talent export cooperation, and other issues between the two regions. They also presented banners and books such as "Liwan Memory" and "Huaxia - Lipan Fang Overseas Chinese Connection in Five Continents" to the delegation. The Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation presented banners and books to the delegation. Huang Guohui emphasized during the exchange that many Sarawak Chinese have ancestral roots in Guangdong and Fujian, and have natural blood and cultural ties with Liwan. Many Malaysian Chinese families still preserve the genealogy and ancestral stories of their hometowns, adhering to the dietary habits and festival traditions of their hometowns. These legacies are the core embodiment of the spirit of "overseas Chinese" and an important bond that connects the soul. He mentioned that in the context of the new era, it is the common mission of the overseas Chinese community to help the younger generation better understand Chinese culture, establish cultural confidence, and promote diverse people to people exchanges between Sarawak and China. In addition, Huang Guohui also introduced the achievements of the delegation in promoting education, culture, economy, trade, and people to people exchanges between Sarawak and China over the years. The delegation members expressed that the profound cultural heritage of Liwan and the warm reception from the overseas Chinese community are impressive. This visit not only deepened our understanding of Chinese culture, but also gave us a strong sense of nostalgia for our ancestors as overseas Chinese. Both sides unanimously agreed to deepen cross-border cooperation in education, youth exchanges, public welfare undertakings and other fields in the future, inherit the spirit of "taking from society and using for society" in the overseas Chinese community, and let the positive energy of mutual assistance and responsibility shine on a larger stage, echoing the concept of "a community with a shared future for mankind". The Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation expressed its expectation to use this visit as an opportunity to promote practical measures such as cultural mutual learning, economic and trade cooperation, and talent exchange, so as to revitalize the friendship between the two places in inheritance and jointly write a beautiful chapter of development for the overseas Chinese community.
