Donating over 200 million yuan over 30 years, social forces support the protection of Dunhuang cultural relics

On November 16th, a symposium celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China Dunhuang Grottoes Protection and Research Foundation was held in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province. Over the past 30 years, the foundation has received a total of 210 million yuan in donations from various sectors of society, effectively promoting the research and protection of Dunhuang cultural heritage. The chairman of the foundation, Yang Xiuqing, introduced that in the past 30 years, there have been more and more people enthusiastic about the Dunhuang cultural relics cause, and the identities of donors have become increasingly diverse, including individuals, social organizations, and enterprises. Honorary Dean of Dunhuang Academy, Fan Jinshi, donates 10000 yuan annually from her salary and will donate another 10 million yuan in prize money in 2023; Renowned enterprises and well-known figures at home and abroad continue to donate resources; Children also donated their accumulated New Year's money... In recent years, with the help of the Internet platform, it has trickled down to the sea. Fan Jinshi said that these donations have made important contributions to the protection and research of Dunhuang grottoes. "When people help us, we should understand and treat their hearts well and do better." We should promote Dunhuang culture with public welfare and nurture Dunhuang scholarship with charity. Over the past 30 years, the foundation has carried out nearly 100 public welfare funding projects in the protection of Dunhuang grottoes, preservation of grotto archives, environmental protection of Mogao Grottoes, and digitization of cultural relics. The Foundation has also funded a number of international academic exchange activities of Dunhuang Studies and Dunhuang Studies research projects to help Dunhuang Studies research and Dunhuang Studies talent training. In recent years, the foundation has increased its funding for research activities related to the Silk Road, assisting Chinese scholars in carrying out more than 10 batches of cultural heritage inspection projects along the Silk Road in countries such as Afghanistan, India, and Iran. It has also supported Afghan cultural relics protection personnel to come to China for inspection and research, and brought related exhibitions to countries such as Germany, France, and Uzbekistan. The foundation has built a bridge for friendly interaction between Dunhuang culture and the general public. I hope more and more people will enjoy Dunhuang culture and contribute to the development of Dunhuang cultural relics. ”Director Su Bomin of Dunhuang Academy said. The China Dunhuang Grottoes Protection and Research Foundation is a national public fund approved by the People's Bank of China and registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
