Russian media: China's aircraft carrier development has reached a new level

2025-11-19

According to a Russian website on November 7th, on November 5th, China's third aircraft carrier, the Fujian ship with hull number "18", officially joined the Chinese Navy's sequence. The entry ceremony was held at a military port in Sanya, Hainan Province. Prior to this, China had already added two aircraft carriers - the Liaoning and Shandong - to its naval sequence in 2012 and 2019, respectively. The core technological characteristics of the Fujian ship are: breakthrough takeoff mode: it is China's first completely independently designed and built catapult type aircraft carrier, equipped with electromagnetic catapult system (previously, only the US Navy had mastered shipborne electromagnetic catapult technology); Excellent combat effectiveness: Compared with traditional steam catapults, electromagnetic catapults have higher safety and lower failure rates, and require fewer maintenance personnel. They can catapult heavier carrier based aircraft at a faster speed and allow carrier based aircraft to take off with full fuel catapults, greatly improving the combat effectiveness of a single strike; High takeoff and landing efficiency: Thanks to electromagnetic catapults, the preparation time for aircraft takeoff has been significantly reduced. It is estimated that the maximum daily takeoff and landing frequency can be increased to nearly 300 times, far ahead of two aircraft carriers. The commissioning of the Fujian aircraft carrier marks a new milestone for China's aircraft carrier industry. Some experts believe that its electromagnetic catapult technology will significantly improve the efficiency and combat effectiveness of carrier based aircraft, which has achieved a qualitative leap in the Chinese Navy's ability to engage in long-range operations and deliver troops.
