The seminar on the development of mushroom and grass industry in the Pacific region focuses on poverty reduction and sustainable development

The three-day Pacific mushroom and grass industry development seminar concluded on the 21st in Nadi, Fiji. The attending representatives discussed in depth the current application status and future prospects of mushroom grass technology in the region, focusing on issues such as poverty reduction, climate change response, ecological protection, and sustainable development. This seminar is jointly organized by the China Pacific Island Countries Fungi and Grass Technology Demonstration Center and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Fiji. Nearly 100 representatives from more than 10 countries including Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, and China attended. Fiji's Acting Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Filiponi Vosarengo, said at the opening ceremony that farmers in Fiji plant mushroom grass to produce high-quality mushrooms, make livestock feed, and control soil erosion. This technology is improving the livelihoods of Fijian people, empowering women and youth, and enhancing the climate resilience of our rural communities. Professor Lin Zhanxi, Chief Scientist of the China National Fungi and Grass Engineering Technology Research Center, stated during the conference that he has visited Fiji multiple times and through exchanges with local farmers and on-site investigations, he has been able to better apply fungi and grass technology according to local conditions and promote the development of the fungi and grass industry. During the conference, representatives visited the Mushroom Grass Technology Demonstration Center, Mushroom Grass Soil and Water Loss Control Ecological Farm, Mushroom Grass Mushroom Production Demonstration Base, etc. (New Society)
