2025-12-03

48 year old Yu Lihan, originally named Ismet Himet, lives in Berlin, Germany and is fluent in Chinese. You Lihan began studying Chinese martial arts in 1991 and went to China for the first time to "learn from a master" in 2000. Since 2006, he has been teaching Chinese martial arts full-time in Germany. The martial arts school he founded in Berlin offers teaching programs such as Tai Chi, Baguazhang, Xingyi Quan, etc., attracting students of different ages to come and practice. In his classroom, martial arts is not only a set of techniques, but also a way of life and thinking. On November 13th, at the "Xuan" martial arts studio in Berlin, Germany, You Lihan (left) guided the students in their practice. She Yuran, also known as "Ah Xiao" in the industry, was born in Sichuan and currently resides in Shanghai. During his university years, he was exposed to European Historical Martial Arts (HEMA) and started with the German classical swordsmanship system, gradually delving deeper into the study of historical weapons and techniques. In 2015, She Yuran co founded the Shanghai Historical Martial Arts Club (SHMA) with her partners, incorporating European historical martial arts, Chinese martial arts, and other projects into the systematic training. Nowadays, SHMA has over 200 members, more than half of whom are studying German swordsmanship, with courses covering European longsword, saber, sword shield, and more. Yu Lihan helped Germans gain a deeper understanding of Chinese martial arts, while She Yuran brought young Chinese people closer to German swordsmanship. Across the Eurasian continent, they are all using their own ways to make martial arts a bridge across cultures. (New Society)
