The return of fish to coral reefs indicates that the ecology has been restored

The Red Sea Tourism Project is one of the mega infrastructure construction projects launched by Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030". The Saudi government regards "green and environmental protection" as the biggest highlight of this tourism project, and has implemented strict environmental standards during construction. Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company, a subsidiary of China Electric Power Construction Corporation, has undertaken the public infrastructure and building infrastructure projects in the project, and its green and intelligent manufacturing plan and practice have been highly recognized by all parties. Photos of unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea tourism project. Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company provided a picture of diving from the clear and emerald red sea surface, with green coral clusters swaying like water grass with the waves, and spotted fish, grouper, and coral fish swimming among them. On some reefs, various types of corals in red, purple, and pink have already taken on a small appearance. The Red Sea has the fourth largest coral reef ecosystem in the world. Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company has undertaken the construction of three seawater desalination plants and the laying of submarine cables for the Red Sea tourism project, with water intake pipelines and submarine cables penetrating deep into the seabed. Before the construction of the project, a professional team was dispatched to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the underwater ecological situation. Coral that may be damaged by the pipeline was transplanted in advance, and after the pipeline was buried, it was "moved back" and prefabricated concrete hollow blocks were placed to facilitate coral growth. Staff monitor coral growth. Habib, a staff member of the Environmental Protection Department of Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company's mapping project, and his colleagues go to relevant sea areas every week to check the growth of coral and use underwater robots to inspect the ecology of the reef bottom. Coral grows slowly. After three years of construction, some corals have only grown a few centimeters, but he said happily: "The fish return to the coral clump, indicating that the ecology has been restored." After seeing the coral, Habib drove to a beach with reporters. I saw red saplings neatly arranged, and in many places, hermit crabs had already built nests among them. Mangrove restoration is also one of the important tasks of the project. Habib said, "The Red Sea region is one of the areas with the least human activity in the world. We are pleased to contribute to the protection of the ocean and the ecology." Staff monitored the growth of mangrove forests. According to Mo Bing, the project leader of Guan Kejiang, a reporter from People's Daily Online, the project has set up an independent environmental protection department and regularly holds environmental practice activities with the owners, insisting on protecting the habitats of marine fish, turtles, mangroves and other animals and plants from the impact of construction operations. On July 7, 2025, the project department was awarded the Environmental Management Excellent Contractor Certificate by Red Sea Global Company. (New Society)
