The 2024 Hong Kong outward direct investment statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on the 9th showed that by the end of 2024, the total stock of foreign direct investment in Hong Kong had increased by 9.1% year-on-year to HKD 20049.6 billion, equivalent to 631% of the local gross domestic product in 2024. Statistics show that the total stock of Hong Kong's outward direct investment increased by 6.7% year-on-year to HKD 1.889 trillion, equivalent to 595% of the local GDP in 2024. The total inflow of direct investment in 2024 was HKD 982.4 billion, and the total outflow of direct investment was HKD 629.2 billion, resulting in a net inflow of direct investment of HKD 353.2 billion in 2024. A spokesperson for the SAR government stated that this confirms Hong Kong's position as a major international financial and business center, as well as the preferred base for multinational corporations, and reflects global investors' confidence in Hong Kong's economic prospects. Hong Kong's outward foreign direct investment covers a vast area and various economic activities, among which the mainland is an important source and destination for Hong Kong's outward foreign direct investment. This highlights the important role of Hong Kong as a "super contact" and "super value-added person". The spokesperson stated that the SAR government will continue to leverage Hong Kong's unique advantages to play the role of "internal and external communication", deepen Hong Kong's international connections in all aspects, and actively take measures to attract more mainland enterprises to use Hong Kong as a platform to go global.
