On December 15th, the "Gathering Talents from All over the World - Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Imperial Examination Culture" will be held at the Confucius Temple and the National Academy Museum on the 16th. The exhibition showcases more than 130 physical exhibits, which systematically explain the millennium evolution of the ancient Chinese imperial examination system and its profound impact on Chinese civilization and the world through the evolution of the imperial examination system, examination selection practices, and institutional influences. The exhibition is divided into three parts. The first part "Selecting Talents to Promote Ambition" focuses on the development process of the imperial examination system, showcasing the political wisdom of the Chinese nation in selecting and appointing capable individuals. From the selection of candidates through rural examinations in the pre Qin period, to the military merit system in the Qin Dynasty, to the equal emphasis on moral character in the Han Dynasty's examination system, to the attempts of the nine rank system in the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, until the establishment of the imperial examination system in the Tang Dynasty. The exhibition combines text, images, physical objects, and interactive experiences to reveal the core spirit of the imperial examination system of "free application and fair competition". The second part, "Journey to Apricot Garden," showcases the ten-year struggle of the imperial examination scholars. Taking the imperial examination process of the Qing Dynasty as a sample, this study reconstructs the selection scenes of the four levels of children's examination, township examination, imperial examination, and palace examination, leading the audience to experience the life of a scholar through time and space, experiencing the hardships and achievements of ancient scholars from childhood to becoming a successful candidate. The audience can experience the living conditions and spiritual outlook of ancient scholars here. The third part "Conquering the World with Talent" showcases the profound influence of the imperial examination system. In terms of talent cultivation, the imperial examination system broke the monopoly of aristocratic families and created countless outstanding talents; In terms of cultural education, the imperial examination system promoted the prosperity of cultural and educational undertakings, as well as the flourishing of related folk cultures; In terms of civilization influence, the imperial examination system has spread far and wide, promoting the development of world civilization. In history, which celebrities were selected through the imperial examination system? What is the 'highlight moment' of achieving success in the imperial examination? How do unsuccessful candidates choose their life path? The exhibition hall is equipped with multiple interactive devices to present the details of the imperial examination system to the audience. Li Xiaodi, deputy research curator and curator of Confucius Temple and Guozijian Museum, introduced that this exhibition is a general history exhibition in the museum, interpreting the imperial examination system from a historical perspective. At the same time, the "Four Books" and "Five Classics" are also integrated into the exhibition, and multiple multimedia scenes are integrated, hoping to showcase the imperial examination system to the audience from a more comprehensive perspective. From the institutional ideal of "fair selection of scholars" to the contemporary practice of "talented people from all over the world", this exhibition takes cultural relics as boats and technology as boats, carrying the audience upstream and touching the unremitting pursuit of fairness and excellence in Chinese civilization. The exhibition is located in the East Third Hall of the Imperial Academy and is free of charge. (New Society)
