The 12th National Paralympic Games and the 9th Special Olympics will close on the 15th. On the same day, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam praised the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes in this year's Paralympic Games, demonstrating extraordinary fighting spirit and excellent sportsmanship, and congratulated them on their achievements. Li Jiachao said that the Hong Kong delegation participated in this year's Paralympic Games on the largest scale ever, fully exerting personal perseverance and team spirit, creating historical achievements, and achieving 51 gold, 49 silver, and 40 bronze medals in the event, which is encouraging. Athletes strive hard, overcome obstacles, and surpass themselves, showcasing Hong Kong's indomitable spirit of never giving up and perseverance. He said that with the valuable experience of successfully hosting the 15th National Games, the three regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao will continue to leverage the synergistic effect of resource sharing and complementary advantages, and work together to host the Paralympic Games with "equality, participation, sharing, and integration". Li Jiachao stated that the SAR government has spared no effort in promoting the development of sports for people with disabilities. From 2024 to 2025, the actual expenditure of the SAR government on the development of disability sports will exceed HKD 140 million, with support for disabled athletes accounting for over 80% of the overall expenditure on disability sports development. The SAR government encourages more disabled people to join the ranks of athletes and showcase their strengths by continuously increasing resources and optimizing training channels, thereby enhancing public awareness and support for disabled sports. He said that the successful hosting of the 15th National Games and the Paralympic Games demonstrated the ability of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to host large-scale sports events. The SAR government has signed an agreement with the General Administration of Sport of China, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and the Macao SAR government on strengthening sports cooperation and promoting integrated development. Under the relevant strategic framework, we will continue the spirit of unity, further promote the deepening of cooperation in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and actively implement the integrated development of sports in the Greater Bay Area.
