The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has released the first blueprint for the development of traditional Chinese medicine

On the 18th, the Hong Kong SAR government released the first "Blueprint for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine", outlining the vision and strategy for the future development of traditional Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. This blueprint revolves around five areas: traditional Chinese medicine services and specialties, development of traditional Chinese medicine, cultural inheritance, and internationalization. It proposes 8 goals and 20 specific actions aimed at promoting the all-round, high-quality, and high-level development of traditional Chinese medicine. The primary goal of the blueprint is to optimize the clinical service system of traditional Chinese medicine, clarify the positioning of traditional Chinese medicine in the Hong Kong healthcare system, and highlight its advantageous areas. Specific actions include establishing cross disciplinary expert forums, researching and developing a list of advantageous diseases with significant therapeutic effects in traditional Chinese medicine, and planning relevant service promotion strategies. In addition, the blueprint emphasizes the establishment of a cross disciplinary service system, deepening the cross disciplinary collaboration mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine services, and making cross disciplinary cooperation smoother by formulating clinical pathways for specific patient groups such as stroke. In terms of leading the development of traditional Chinese medicine, the blueprint proposes to improve the talent training system, optimize the mechanism for continuous learning of traditional Chinese medicine, improve clinical training for practitioners, and promote the comprehensive improvement of the level of traditional Chinese medicine profession. With regard to the development of traditional Chinese medicine, the blueprint clearly defines the comprehensive implementation of traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations production quality management standards, improves the quality level of traditional Chinese medicine, and relies on the Chinese medicine testing center of the special zone government to promote standard research and actively participate in the establishment of international standards for traditional Chinese medicine. The Director of the Medical and Health Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government, Lu Chongmao, stated at the press conference that traditional Chinese medicine is a treasure of excellent Chinese culture and an important component of Hong Kong's healthcare system, deeply trusted by the public. The Special Administrative Region government has been continuously promoting the development of traditional Chinese medicine in talent cultivation, service promotion, industry norms and standard construction for many years. He pointed out that the "Blueprint for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine" aims to further leverage the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, enabling citizens to enjoy better and comprehensive medical and health services, and building Hong Kong into a bridgehead for traditional Chinese medicine to go global.
