Micro drama, from "wind vent" to "window"

2025-12-23

Recently, the General Office of the Henan Provincial Government issued the "Several Policy Measures to Support the High Quality Development of the Micro Drama Industry in Henan Province", which tailored a series of support measures for the development of the micro drama industry, demonstrating Henan's determination to build a highland for the micro drama industry. Firstly, the policy encourages the production of high-quality works with real money and silver. For example, rewards ranging from 100000 to 300000 yuan will be given to works that have won mainstream honors or been broadcasted on mainstream platforms. It is reported that the production cost of a single short drama in the industry is generally in the hundreds of thousands of yuan. Against this backdrop, the sincerity of Henan Province is touching, which to a considerable extent inspires practitioners to break away from the "short, flat and fast" traffic logic and turn to the deep cultivation and production of high-quality content. Secondly, the support scope is relatively comprehensive, covering 15 measures from content creation to improving the industrial chain, with particular emphasis on cultivating the industrial ecosystem. For example, it is explicitly stated that 'supporting micro drama enterprises to build online audiovisual platforms, and for the construction and operation units of micro drama broadcasting platforms ranked high, a one-time reward of no more than 3 million yuan will be given'; Encourage the creation of micro drama industry development clusters with equipment and props sharing, complete public facilities, rich shooting scenes, and efficient operation services; Strengthen the guarantee of talent attraction and education, and provide "one-stop" services including policy consultation, copyright protection, financial support, etc. for various business entities; and so on. Various support projects have conveyed a clear policy signal: micro dramas are expected to grow into a sustainable, multi-level, and large-scale mature industry, which will boost the confidence and ability of relevant practitioners to deeply cultivate content and invest in the long term. In fact, at the beginning of this year, the State Administration of Radio and Television launched the "Micro Drama+" action plan, which reflects the idea of "balancing standardization and development" and comprehensively promotes the healthy development of the micro drama industry. For a long time, there has been an awkward situation in the industry where the mainstream is not selling well and the best-selling is not respectable. But it cannot be denied that micro dramas have unique advantages in dissemination: down-to-earth, internet savvy, and close to life. From early savage growth to today's upgraded quality, people have gradually perceived the competitiveness of micro dramas. Its dissemination scenarios are extending from a single short video platform to long videos, social media platforms, and even industry applications; There have been some works of "acclaim and success", and social evaluation has gradually got rid of the label of "unfashionable" and "low quality"; The media discourse power and social recognition have both shown significant growth... These changes are a reflection of the industry's shift from disorderly competition in the "wind wave" to orderly development in the "window" period. To truly stand firm in the 'window period', the key still lies in continuing to move towards' refinement '. Whether it is script polishing, production quality, or aesthetic expression, micro dramas need to break away from the crude mode and win the respect of the audience through meticulous work. In fact, the form of media itself is not a standard for evaluating the quality of content, and the length of the article does not necessarily equate to the quality. Only by truly gaining audience recognition can it become an effective carrier for promoting artistic innovation, cultural dissemination, and industrial empowerment. Nowadays, the user base of micro dramas is nearly 700 million, and they have grown from niche entertainment to popular audiovisual products. Standing at a critical juncture of transformation, it is even more necessary for policies, platforms, and creators to jointly seize opportunities, nurture and nurture the development of the industry, and make micro dramas not only "short and fast", but also "short and refined, short and beautiful, short and deep".
