Smart technology opens up new space for industrial tourism
2025-12-29
Industrial tourism has continued to heat up recently, becoming a new blue ocean for cultural and tourism consumption. From Beijing Shougang creating a trendy space that integrates digital art and industrial heritage, to Qingdao Beer Museum receiving over 10000 visitors in a single day; From attracting young people to take photos at the Baosteel Site Park in Shanghai, to the immersive scenes in the eastern suburbs of Chengdu that integrate music, art, and industrial landscapes... These factories, once seen as cold and dry, are now entering the public eye with a new look of heritage, experience, and digital intelligence. The concept upgrade and industrial transformation triggered by technologies such as artificial intelligence are driving a new round of development in China's industrial tourism. Currently, under the policy guidance of promoting the integration of industrial culture and tourism development in the country, some production areas continue to introduce static display, assembly line visits and other tourism modes, and then accelerate the shift towards a composite format of technology experience, cultural creativity, education research and leisure consumption. Currently, over a hundred national level industrial tourism demonstration benchmarks have been established nationwide, covering industries such as steel, textiles, and aerospace. Multiple regions have simultaneously introduced special measures to support the innovative practice of "industry+" cultural tourism through institutional supply, gradually advancing industrial tourism towards the stage of industrial integration and deepening experience. As a way for people to have zero distance contact with technology, the rise of industrial tourism reflects the increasing public attention and demand for scientific knowledge and emerging technologies. Cultural and tourism consumption has shifted from superficial sightseeing and entertainment to deeper participation with more knowledge content and immersive perception. The historical context of industrial tourism towards traditional manufacturing industry: industrial heritage such as blast furnaces, factories, tracks, chimneys, etc. have been activated into tangible public spaces, allowing people to personally experience the industrialization changes of the country and the region; The open and transparent production lines in industries such as food and daily chemical also respond to the public's trust and concern for brands and quality through observable and verifiable processes. At the same time, industrial tourism has also opened a window for people to understand technology: the opening up of popular fields such as aerospace, artificial intelligence, and new energy equipment has made industrial visits no longer just about "looking at factories", but into the on-site classroom of future industries; The continuous popularity of professional study activities such as air shows, intelligent manufacturing, and infrastructure also reflects the society's interest in technological innovation and national industry. To continuously transform industrial space from a single production field to an organic connection between production, consumption, experience, and knowledge transformation, we can start from the following aspects. One is to gradually dissolve the boundaries between the front-end and back-end. For example, more and more factories are embedding visiting corridors, science popularization exhibitions, and interactive experiences into their production systems, visualizing processes such as robotic arm welding, intelligent testing, and automatic assembly, and making production itself a consumer content. The second is to integrate the experience of participating in the production process into value co creation. The Lighthouse Factory supports user customization, and the coffee plantation guides tourists to participate throughout the entire process, reshaping brand trust and recognition through interactive participation. The third is to integrate business formats and activate the multiple values of old industrial spaces. On the basis of preserving the texture of industrial relics, many places have implanted local culture, cultural creativity, education and training, community activities and other functions to attract stable foot traffic to dormant factories, form sustainable consumption, and promote the transition of old parks from "production fields" to "living fields" and "innovation fields". The fourth is to promote industrial tourism to take on more social responsibility of popularizing science among the whole nation. Research and practice, represented by drone programming and intelligent equipment experience, transform high-precision technological knowledge into multi sensory acquisition practice, enabling tourism to transcend leisure and entertainment, and participate in the process of popular science popularization and literacy improvement. At present, the accelerated embedding of technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, big data, the Internet of Things, and blockchain brings new imagination and practical space for industrial tourism; The AI navigation system can generate personalized explanations in real-time based on age, interests, and cognitive level; The integration of digital printing, AI painting and other technologies with traditional crafts allows tourists to experience the deep integration of technology and culture through interactive experiences. In addition, big data and IoT technology enable deep integration of production processes, tourist behavior, and experience feedback, providing digital support for tourism planning, exhibition design, and research activities. In the future, technology should be used as the engine, culture as the soul, users as the center, and scenarios as the carrier to promote the deep coupling of production logic and experience logic, and to create a modern cultural and tourism new space that combines technology, humanity, and participation.
