Recently, the first instance judgment of the fraud case of "identifying classmates by air" filed by the Kaiyang County Procuratorate in Guizhou Province has come into effect. The message below a seemingly ordinary short video is actually the beginning of a scam. On April 20, 2025, Liu left a message under Wu's short video. After a few pleasantries, Liu claimed to be Wu's elementary school classmate whom he hadn't seen in many years and shared some childhood memories. Finally, he told Wu that he was currently working in the court. At this moment, Wu was struggling with unresolved issues, and this "old classmate" who had fallen from the sky and worked in the judicial system was like a "life-saving straw" for him. Wu firmly believed in Liu's identity and revealed his predicament. Liu took advantage of the situation and played the role of "enthusiastic helper", and requested to borrow money. Wu, who was eager to handle the matter, did not investigate further and transferred 6000 yuan in two installments to Liu's designated account on the same day. After receiving the money, Liu disappeared immediately. After the first successful fraud, Liu turned his target to Zeng. On April 22, 2025, he impersonated a primary school classmate of Mr. Zeng and called him. After gaining initial trust, he began to fabricate the excuse of urgently needing money and asked for a loan from an "old classmate". Zeng transferred 3000 yuan to Liu through WeChat on the same day, but after receiving the money, Liu went missing again. When the two victims couldn't contact this' old classmate ', they realized that they might have been scammed and chose to report it to the police. After investigation, the police quickly locked suspect Liu. After the investigation of the case is completed, it is transferred to the procuratorial organ for review and prosecution. After examination, the procuratorial organ determined that Liu committed fraud against others with the purpose of illegal possession, and the amount involved was relatively large. On June 25, 2025, Liu was prosecuted for suspected fraud. Recently, the court sentenced Liu to ten months in prison and fined him 2000 yuan for fraud. (New Society)
