The "Nobel Heroes Forum: Leading Science and the Future" event, jointly organized by the University of Hong Kong and the Lin Dao Nobel Laureate Conference, was held at the University of Hong Kong on the 12th. Several Nobel laureates discussed how basic research will affect future science, technology, health, and the global economy. The forum has two discussion sessions, with the themes of "Building the Future: From Molecules to Materials" and "Deconstructing Complexity: From Cells to the Global Economic Regulation System", hosted by the President of the University of Hong Kong, Zhang Xiang, and the Chief Vice President, Wang Yujian. Zhang Xiang said in his speech at the forum that the world is facing many challenges today and urgently needs technological innovation to provide solutions. He hopes to fully learn and draw on the insights of top international scholars through this forum, promote the development of basic scientific research, facilitate the transformation of achievements, and benefit humanity. Nikolaus Turna, Executive Director of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Conference, expressed the hope that the conference will gather more outstanding young scientists from Hong Kong, establish long-term partnerships, and continue the unique intergenerational dialogue between Nobel laureates and the new generation of researchers. At the forum, Ferenc Krauss, the winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics, emphasized the importance of international cooperation for scientific research development. Klaus, who joined the University of Hong Kong in November last year, said that Hong Kong is a gateway connecting East West cooperation, and its open academic atmosphere is driving scientific research forward. Konstantin Novoselov, the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, pointed out that when doing research, one should enjoy the process like enjoying the results. Only by continuously investing in the process of solving problems and breaking down obstacles can one move forward, and this is precisely the professional spirit of scientists. Kurt Wittlich, the winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, encouraged young people to overcome obstacles, stick to the right direction, and not overly rely on artificial intelligence while ignoring their own judgments. Even if it fails, it is only a part of the process. Another event of the Nobel Heroes Forum will be held on January 13th at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Lindau Nobel Prize Winners' Conference was established in 1951, initially focusing on disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and medicine. In 2004, the Economics Prize Winners' Conference was added. (New Society)
