Encountering new forms of technology and art

The exhibition "Poetry of the Future, Brushwork and Blank Space of Techniques - New Appearance of Technology and Art" planned and hosted by the National Art Museum of China recently met with the audience, showcasing the exploration of eight contemporary young artists in integrating technology into artistic creation, including a robotic arm that "paints" under the influence of geomagnetic disturbance index, a "flowing" landscape painting, and AI derived images of climate control in the next 500 years. The exhibits cover various media forms such as installations and digital images, including digital imagery transformed from traditional mountain and water spirits, as well as critical thinking on artificial intelligence technology. Artists use technological means to construct poetic artistic language while actively exploring contemporary expressions of Chinese culture. The digital immersive image "The Flat and Curved Sky Like One" was inspired by Ma Yuan's "Water Picture" from the Southern Song Dynasty. The work presents dynamic water patterns in modern digital form, integrating classic painting styles with natural ecology, conveying a unique natural atmosphere. The audience enters the space where water and sky meet, creating a sense of unity between heaven and man. In the imaging device "Hunlun", two robotic arms are suspended with hammers at their ends, and as the main structure rotates, circular rings are drawn on the ground. It is reported that the imagery of the work is taken from the Yuan Dynasty painter Zhu Derun's "Hun Lun Tu". The program introduces the geomagnetic disturbance index from 1957 to the present, injecting randomness into the motion trajectory of the hammer, forming a constantly sculpting field between artificial and natural, technology and nature. Curators Liu Chunfeng and Li Jihan introduced that scientific materials serve as a new "brush" and "material" for artists, leaving traces in their creations and leaving blank spaces outside their works. This kind of blank space reflects the poetic and profound meaning of Eastern art. The organizer stated that the exhibition is not only a showcase of innovative achievements in "technology+art", but also an academic discussion on the possibilities of future art. Viewers can perceive the development trend of the integration and symbiosis of technology and art, and imagine the future cultural landscape shaped by the synergy between the two. (New Society)
