On the 2nd, the reporter learned from the Propaganda Department of Dalian Lushun District Committee that the People's Government of Liaoning Province has recently officially announced the seventh batch of representative projects of provincial intangible cultural heritage. "Lushun Leather Carving" has been successfully selected due to its profound cultural heritage, complete craftsmanship system, and distinctive artistic characteristics, and belongs to the category of "traditional art". The development of leather carving art has a history of more than 1500 years. Lushun leather carving is a traditional handicraft that has been passed down in Lushunkou District, Dalian City. It uses animal leather as material and creates three-dimensional sculptures that are both practical and artistic through complex processes such as tanning, carving, dyeing, and assembly. Its history can be traced back to the late Qing Dynasty, and after a hundred years of inheritance, it has gradually formed a unique artistic style and a complete process, becoming an important symbol of cultural identity in the Lushun area. As the core inheritor of leather sculpture in Lushun, Cong Longqiang is the fourth generation descendant of leather sculpture. After learning that it has been selected for the provincial intangible cultural heritage list, Cong Longqiang told reporters that this will be more conducive to the dissemination and promotion of this century old skill. From now on, Lvshun Leather Carving has a higher platform, and we can better go out of Lvshun and reach the whole country. Influenced by his family, Cong Longqiang has had an inseparable bond with leather goods production and processing since childhood. During his decades of working in arts and crafts education, he has always been committed to the protection and inheritance of this skill. In his early years, he actively integrated his family's craft into university teaching, making every effort to avoid the crisis of endangered skills. In order to allow young people to experience the charm of traditional crafts up close, Cong Longqiang has established intangible cultural heritage teaching bases in multiple places. At the same time, every two weeks, he voluntarily teaches leather carving classes to students at the Experimental Primary School in Lushun Development Zone. His apprentices also regularly go to Dalian city to teach children with loneliness. I hope more people will love the art of leather carving, "said Cong Longqiang. The key to inheritance is to cultivate fresh blood and pass on century old skills to new generations, radiating new colors. It is reported that the inclusion of the "Lushun Leather Carving" in the Liaoning Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List has also achieved a breakthrough of zero on the local Liaoning Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The Culture and Tourism Bureau of Lushunkou District stated that the award of this honor is a recognition of the guardians of this traditional craft who have been committed to inheritance and innovative development for many years. In the future, this traditional craft will be better preserved and developed through innovation. (New Society)
